there's a lot of things we don't fully comprehend or understand .... rumour has it that the average person only uses approx 7% of his psychic abilities .... some have managed to use a bit more and are able to do things such as astroproject etc have you never experienced a dejevu event where you thought: Hmmm ... I knew this was going to happen? .... or been to a place for the very 1st time and thought: Hmmmm ... I dreamed about this place? many police forces use the help of psychics in cracking difficult cases such as missing persons, and many psychics who are employed by them have been very accurate (check google) people are still trying to understand Edgar Cayce's readings aswell as Nostradamus looking at Nostradamus, some of what he predicted has been very close .... he even described Hitler, but named his as Hissler? ... (c'mon guys ... what are the chances of that?) he spoke in riddles though so lets not debunk it completely there are some children that have been labeled as Indigo children .... read up about them on google my brother spent 3 months in a tibet monastry when touring Japan/China a few years ago .... he says he saw a monk meditating and the guy actually levitated approx 2 feet off the ground? .... My brother does not speak shite or eat magic mushrooms I spent most of my life in Africa ... they have what is known as witch doctors .... there are some really famous talented ones that have been known to predict forthcoming events very accurately then we have the Mayans and the Indian Hopi who are/were very spiritual .... some of their clan have predicted events centuries ago that are happening right now ... google is your friend so, I always keep an open mind when it comes to these topics, and I actually believe that there are some people who are gifted ... if you read one of my previous posts on this thread, you will read about my personal experience in this regard My mother just somehow knows when a family member is sick or who has passed away .... when the phone rings, she tells you who is sick, or who has passed before answering but saying that, there are proibably more who take a chance to make money .... but always keep an open mind
not sure blacksmith ... perhaps the answer is that everything hinges on fate, and we cannot change the future?
Fixed points in time, like Vesuvius.:DOH:Too much Doctor Who again:DOH:I have dreamed of places and events that i've no experience of that have come true or have visited. Something going on that we've not quantified yet, in the future they'll probably call it Neutrino Flash Forward or something. I was in love once, I knew if she was in town, I knew when i'd walk rond the corner & she'd be there seconds before we bumped into each other. The feeling became so normal that i'd come to rely on it. She lived 7 miles from me. One night I had a vision of her looking extremely agitated, made me sit bolt upright in bed at 2AM. She didn't come round in the morning as arranged & her phone was off the hook. I put the local radio on & heard the police had detained a man after a stabbing incident in her village. Around 2AM the previous evening, her sisters boyfriend had gone mental & burst into her brothers room & stabbed his girlfriend whilst shouting in German for some unknown reason. Fortunately, she wasn't seriously (physically) hurt, but everyone in the house was in an absolute panic. Can't explain how I knew, I just did:DOH: Last time I felt her presence was just after we'd broke up, i'd gone to the front door to let her in, but she went past on the bus on the way to see her new boyfriend.
I would say that the majority of people who go to see a psychic/clairvoyant are not going for a prediction of what will happen in the future, they are going to try to find evidence, no matter how small, of an afterlife, they have lost someone close to them and the grief is unbearable. Even if the psychic is a 'fake' people very often feel very comforted and more able to face life because of the experience. Personally I believe there is 'something else' but like dim I think we have lost the ability and the inclination to tap into it, people are so very materialistic they are no longer interested in spiritual things!! Val
As others have already pointed out on here, a lot of these psychics/clairvoyants are skilled at asking leading questions which could apply to any number of people, then appearing to have plucked the information from nowhere when someone replies in the affirmative. It's clever, but it's not magic. However, it is true that some people can feel or sense events or happenings with an accuracy that appears baffling. The human brain is a marvellous, incredibly complex organ which is constantly processing information at both conscious and subconscious levels. My guess is that these 'predictions' or 'premonitions' which many people experience are intuitions based on all sorts of signals and tiny bits of information which the brain has taken in, processed (often without us consciously realising it) and interpreted in a way that makes it useful or meaningful to our survival. We all know the feeling of 'being watched', this is probably an evolutionary survival mechanism to warn us of the presence of predators which somehow uses the process I described above. We know it works, but we don't know how. When it comes to 'fortune tellers' predicting future events in peoples lives, perhaps selective memory is at work here? A 'fortune teller' will probably 'predict' any number of possible future events, but we are much more likely to remember the ones which appear to come true and discard or forget those that don't.
Back in the early 50s,my Grandmother(allegedly from Romany stock)? told fortunes,Tarot card readings, and tea cup readings,(before tea bags)!. She would do sittings 3 times a week in the local areas. The local housewives would take their turns in who's house the readings would be held in,(this was before everyone had TV). :D. One night when my mother was out my gran said she would do a reading for me!!.. My gran was very fond of a wee drop of wine, but that night she had had a bucket of wine... My gran did my reading and said she could see lots of water and a person drowning, saying i looked like the person drowning and to stay away from deep water.!:gaagh:. When my mother came home i told her what my gran had said, my mother gave her HELL. I was only @9 yrs old. WELL GRAN YOU WERE WRONG. I joined the navy @16yrs old and i also won a Gold/Silver/Bronze for Marathon Swimming and i swim every other day in the local swimming pool..
My mam goes to one of these "spiritualist" meetings (they don't seem to call themselves clairvoyants or mediums anymore) since my step dad died. She pays £5 each time. Maybe I'm too brutally honest with her, but I pick holes in everything she tells me that happens there. The first week she went, the 'spiritualist' apparently announced, 'I have an old lady called Elsie here, does anybody know Elsie?'. Everybody looked around at each other, then the psychic apparently said, 'its not Elsie, its Edna', still no reaction from the audience, so the psychic tried a third name that started with an 'E', at which point somebody apparently looked up with recognition, and the 'psychic homed in on that person. I think its extremely cruel to take advantage of someone's grief and sell a load of lies. I also wonder, if the spirits of the deceased did want to get a message to someone they left behind, why would they choose to talk through a stranger in front of an audience? I remain open minded about these things, and admit that I don't really know either way, but I suspect if there is a way at all for the spirits of the deceased to talk to us, they'd do it through our dreams, because when you're asleep, the subconscious mind is very much still awake, but the conscious mind doesn't get in the way. But then its also possible that dreams are just dreams.
The problem with Nostradamus, the Mayas, the Hopis etc is that their predictions are open to interpretation, so what you want to see, should you be so inclined, you will see. As for levitation if the priest could do it for real he'd being living 24/7 under the lenses of global TV camera teams.!!! There's all these wonderful sights and happenings being "reported" but in reality after centuries and centuries there's no real actual proof. Don't get me wrong I've already said I'm a doubter but there is no one on this Planet who would like to be have their disbelief's burnt down and shattered than me. I'd love to see a person levitate using the power of their mind, I'd love to be contacted from the "Other Side", I'd love to see someone predict something beyond their control and see it actually happening. I've lived in different countries and with different cultures and we're all basically the same humans, wanting to believe in magic, after life existence, God, special gifts and powers, etc. I'm not saying there are no such things..................but what I am saying is show me, prove it to me. Don't just say "Well, I heard," or "it says in this book or that book that this or that happened or will happen so it must be true". Because in cold truth and reality these things have never happened to me, or in front of a camera............ there's a lot a News hungry, ruthless, disbelieving TV Camera crews, Reporters, Journalists out there and so far have you seen any of them reporting the things happening?????? No??, that's funny, neither have I.
I'm going to stick my neck out and risk being a laughing stock if I'm wrong, but I'm going to predict a future event that is absolutely beyond my control, or anyone else's for that matter. Are you ready? I'm sensing something now, yes here it comes. Tomorrow morning, I'm convinced the sun will rise above the horizon, and we shall see several hours of daylight.
If you haven't already seen the Haunted Thread on here The Muppet Show (6th July) it's worth taking a look as it runs on a similar vein to this. You'll have to get past the first few pages of humour though, to get to the more serious discussion.
I think that's what underlines and strengthens my disbelief, Sheal, it's all "serious discussion" and talk, there's no actual proof. Is it that hard for someone to appear on the scene and say "here's proof" and actually have real, indisputable proof???
