OK - serious one now. I've seen quite a few of these things on my travels, and always assumed that I knew what they were.....

Best described as a white pole with a fluorescent apex 'roof' on the top, and generally found in rural locations. I always thought they were there to show where fire beaters were, should a fire break out, but now I am not so sure. I have seen one recently, quite near me in an overgrown field, but I cannot see any sign of fire beaters nor can I see that there would be any need for them either?

The only thing that i can think of, is there are markers for the main gas/fuel lines
                Are they in the hedges?

We have seen many of these and Mr Kandy says they are markers like Jiffy says for various gas pipelines, not sure if they are just for gas or for electrics as well, but they probably would have a different colour hat on them:biggrin:

Why can't you get Lamb flavoured crisps?

Why is it so easy to get distracted from gardening jobs on list of things which need doing....and spend all afternoon working very hard at something else? And is it ok to then add what has actually been done to the list, so that you can tick it offf......?

How come you can get a long straight dual carriageway with a 40mph speed limit on it, but then as you enter a roundabout on it, it becomes national speed limit, then 40 again as soon as you come off.Does the person responsible for setting the speed limits love power slides? Are we meant to tootle along, bored, and then get it all out of our system on the roundabout ?

The person that put the boards up is lurking in a place where you can't see him, waiting for the first idiot and others to plough over the roundabout and then laughing at them. :lolpt:

There is a roundabout about 100 yards from our house that sits in the middle of a dual carriageway. It has been hit many times.

Once whilst driving a coach in London I stopped in a pull in whilst I waited for my passengers to come off a boat trip. A traffic warden appeared from a park across the street and gave me a ticket. I don't think he spoke English as refused to speak to me. I reckon he was sitting in the park waiting for miscreants. To make things more annoying, as he was writing the ticket a legitimate space opened up about 100 yards up the road.
