I've recently bought an 8ft x 6ft wooden shed and after weighing up prices, quality etc, decided to buy from a local firm which is also a sawmill. Wooden sheds have never been cheap but will be almost free of problems for many years. The suppliers also laid the concrete base that it stands on and bolted the shed to it. We paid about £900 for shed, base materials and labour. They even dug out a deep turf with a wild orchid in it before laying the base. :)

The firm recommended we use a stable coating (as in horses) below, that is waterproof but allows the shed to breathe.

Now thats a solid looking shed. @Sheal

Metal shed = condensation and take ages to put together. Paint finish discolours too.
Tempted to make my own pent shed if i find some clearance deals on wood or decking.

That looks a great shed and with sturdy base too. Looks well made and will last long time.
          Thanks for sharing.

I have now changed my mind. Not going for a metal shed after seeing some youtube videos and also reading about them.

Wow, great info and advice. Thank you.

I am glad I asked about metal sheds here before deciding. Now I am totally convinced that metal sheds are not good idea unless it comes with some magic ventilation system.

I will look for a wooden shed locally built and supplied, or build it myself going and getting woods from local saw mill.

Someone was recommending plastic sheds, but they seem problematic in the areas of prone to wind damage and gets brittle in the sun, and crack.

Problem with mice seem controllable with bleach mixture treatment on the floor and walls of the old shed.

I am now clearing the corner of the garden to make flat and solid, so shed base can be laid on it. Lots of weeds to clear, plants to move .... ahhh funand games.

A tip for you hedgefog if you don't mind me saying. :) To make a wooden shed less attractive to rodents it's best not to store anything they are likely to eat in there, including flower bulbs, grass seed etc., or anything they can use as bedding. Rodents have very keen noses and will chew their way through if they smell something they like inside.

Or you could sit inside the shed, with suitable supplies, and wait for them to arrive.......

Not at all Sheal. Thank you for your tips.

Yes, I have binned all the cardboard boxes, wrapping papers and even some plastic boxes where mice dropping were spotted.

I keep doing that as there are a few more boxes of old books are kept. I have never had any seeds or bulbs in the shed. But they seem to go for any fabric like even gloves and shoes and covers ... all going to be binned.

I am planning to just keep garden tools in the shed from now. :)
