What's happened to your street lights then?
There are nocturnal creatures other than foxes, such as owls, bats and moths.
Lights in the front garden just add to the general background of light pollution that amateur and professional astronomers have to battle with.

The original question still stands but noone seems to have suggested anything in answer to it other than to check the supermarket. The issue came up as my neighbour was asking if we were decorating. I dont think i have time to put something on the plant and im not just going to buy the first set of lights i see. But as i said in my reply its a feeling that some people get. If you go to the MP or community police im sure that they will say that their records of statistics shows that theres no difference in crime when a street is lit like this compared to when it not but as i said its a feeling same as a feeling of happiness some people get when walking past front gardens where people have decorated their plants with lights. Whether they are truely happy who knows. Accompanying children who can range up to the age of 18 home from school or afterschool clubs is not so simple but i note your reply

I think your question was answered.
Go buy some that are battery operated from a garden centre or supermarket.
    If not get some online.

I'm not sure what anyone else can say or info they can give.

How it got onto safety is a mystery.
