I have a number of red bugs on my Lilly plants who are having a feast, they ruined the plants last year. What bugs are they (see photo)? Any recommendations for a bug killer to tackle these little pests?
    Thanks

Lily beetle, kill them when you see them.
The grubs do worse damage once the eggs hatch.
Provado used to be the spray to use, not sure if it still works.

They are the dreaded Lily beetles. Carefully catch them and stamp on them. They will destroy your lilies. Watch out they tend to fall off and lie on their backs on the soil and disappear from view. The grubs are disgusting, they wrap themselves in their own excrement.
Neem oil is a great way to kill the larvae and the bugs, be sure to spray the underside of the leaves. Spray again within 5 – 7 days to ensure there are no new eggs that hatched.

It is difficult to miss these randy critters. I often grow lots of lilies and some years I don't get a single beetle. Other times I seem to be forever squidgy them. They are using their natural methods of breeding, but this really is messy. From long experience, I have given up spending out on chemicals.

Gardening at times calls for us to stop being fussy. I find a good strong right thumbnail is the best. Thumbnail and index finger makes a great tool.

I used it several years ago, on my tree lilies, seemed to do the trick.

                Loads here too!! Yuk!!
As I don't like using anything to kill them I have a designated old yoghurt pot and a little artist's paintbrush which is used to knock them into the pot...then they get squished!!:dbgrtmb:
