West facing is good, that will cope with all colours. It hasn't helped with the decision though. :)

I think you should go and shunt plants around in a nursery/garden centre and see what takes your fancy. It's much easier when you've got the real thing to play with.

Although I would agree in principle, that would mean waiting until they are both in flower? I need to get something organised over the next couple of weeks.

Hmmm, perhaps you could toss a coin or run a poll here Freddy. The other option is to buy what you like and move one or both plants at a later point if you don't like the combination after flowering.

Another fan of Taylors clematis here.

Weve bought a few from them and find the website good for selecting colour, size, flowering season etc.

Worth using to select a plant, even if you then buy from elsewhere.

Funny you should say that, I did consider it
I think given the range of ideas, I should let Aunt Sally be the arbiter, then she can’t blame me :heehee:

You say that, but she likes the yellow/burgundy thing. Maybe I’ll just try to tone it down a bit :)

Yep, I got that. Being a greedy plantaholic, I was wondering what you could put up the other uprights  My ex UK neighbours had a pergola with eight uprights, down the middle of their garden, each post with a rose and a clematis. Lots of lovely combination possibilities :)

Oh I don’t know, what an I supposed to do now!?
I’m minded to go with the suggestion of @wiseowl , as I used to have ‘Crimson Showers’, and it was a cracker. I just need to sort out the Clematis, a light shade of burgundy.

There are in total 7 uprights. One for this rose/clematis combo, one for an evergreen clematis, and one for a wisteria. 3 of the uprights are very shaded, which leaves just one spare, which is fairly shaded.
