Turn a blind eye to it. Extended investigating would happen taking about the same time as it does to weather the storm and find an alternative... me, cynical?

My late father in laws first job when he left school was as an apprentice gardener and he most likely handled chemicals on a daily basis to get rid of bugs in the estates greenhouses. So much so that when he got married and had his own home, greenhouse and garden he sprayed his fruit and vegetables with all manner of chemicals to kill this bug and that bug and this mildew and that mildew and he still had shelves of the stuff in his garden shed that we found when having to clear his house out and it couldn’t have done him much harm as he was 95 and 11 months young when he passed away nearly three years ago:biggrin:

I still think that a lot of the infertility that is occurring these days in us humans is through all the chemicals that was used on fruit and veg etc when I was growing up and things they are pumping into cows, sheep, pigs etc and look what DDT did to the wildlife as well, and think of all the chemicals that must have been in the bombs dropped on our country and in the seas in the last two world wars and they reckon a lot of the ammunition dumped in deep water around our coastlines after the wars are now breaking down and must be contaminating the seas:sad:

Agreed - and whilst we are at it, what about artificial sweeteners? I have never liked the taste of them, and now they are being foisted upon us thanks to the sugar tax; how can an artificial chemical be healthier than a natural (albeit processed) thing? Sugar has been used for many, many years before artificial sweetners, and the likes of my grandparents and elders never seemed to have a problem with obesity or anything else for that matter.

I've stopped buying soft drinks that contain any artificial sweeteners.
During that fleeting hot spell I bought some fizzy water, so called with hint of fruit, I found it disgusting, the taste was diabolical, all chemicals.

So now I'll only buy drinks that contain sugar, they can poke sucralose, acesulfame and any other chemicals they can come up with, as far as I'm concerned.

          Don't buy this, rubbish.

I might use it to clean the drains.

Generally, I agree with you @pete - and in the past, I would only buy stuff without sweeteners, preferring to buy hi-juice etc, but at the moment I simply cannot afford to buy them as they are now so expensive thanks to the sugar tax!

Well, moving off topic slightly, but TAXES seem to be the BEST way of doing things these days.:lunapic 130165696578242 5:
They brought in a sugar tax, now we are going in the direction of a plastic tax, I dont doubt the reasoning, we need to cut down hard on plastic, but a TAX????
Why not just ban the kind of plastic that cant be recycled?
              Or maybe that wouldn't make any money?:scratch::lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I dont think you can buy many squashes or soft drinks that contain sugar these days, most are chemically sweetened, I just hope that when the Sh ite hits the fan, and research works out that these chemicals are not good for you and cause cancer, that the chemical companies and the government are there to pick up the compensation bill.

You can buy some, but they are generally only the really expensive ones now - nearly a fiver for less than a litre versus a quid or so for a litre of normal squash now loaded with chemicals for our safety. The natural stuff is now horrendously expensive, to the point that I would only ever buy it as a special, once in a blue moon, treat - currently, with me not working, that ain't going to happen.

I reckon it is all a con, and sweeteners must be much cheaper than producing sugar - all backed by the government to keep the shareholders and stock markets happy.

I just think it is a way of making money in the short term, backed by those stupid health officials NHS included, that cant work out for one minute what is good and what is bad for you.

Recently had a touch of gout, got a list of what food is good and what is bad, now if you cross this with a list of what is good for my blood sugar levels, then a list of what is good for my cholesterol, you will find that starving to death is the only way to go.

So true - there are SO many other options to solving the problem, the main one being the government themselves getting their fingers out and coming up with a national standardised recycling system.

And for the stuff that just cannot be recycled, why are we shipping it abroad? They know for sure that it is not going to be recycled in a country that is massively poorer than ours. Why isn't it send to be burned in power stations?

Pumpkins contain approx. 3% sugar and Marrows approx 4%.

We have an incinerator for rubbish not that far from me, but getting it built wasn't easy, with all the protests.
Dont hear anything now all the media have stopped stirring.

It's the usual thing these days, people want this to happen or that to happen, but dont want it near them, even if it is their rubbish that is being burnt.
