I don't have any either. Not sure they'd like the wind so much here.

Planted Diane for a friend a few years back....lovely thing :)
Whichever hamamelis you grow it is a great plant for winter:)
Lucius, I have just germinated hordeum jubatum seed......only sown a few days ago. Why not get a packet so you can plant out several plants?

Ok lucius. Look out for seedlings in August/September and pot them up.
Pleased you bought 3 hordeum......they make a great display as a group :)

Hello @Verdun I need to pick your brains :help:

My other half took me to 5 Garden centres yesterday ....i'm sorry to say my 5 bottle brushes on the front are nearly bare and the stems are brown even we you scratch them, so they're gone [IMG]...I just hope my two beauties on the back garden keep going :love30:

While out I purchased 3 Elijah blue grasses as I :love30: them, brought 4 Cortaderia "Rosia" Pampus grasses to replace the conifer and brought 4 Carex Elata Aurea beautiful colours.

I need your advice on the best time to plant them as temps here are cold and at night been dropping to -2...as I would appreciate it please :)

I brought 4 Carex Elata Aurea so that two can be placed together, so it looks like a circle, with how they fan out.

Now if you want to Gail....they are tough as old boots but it is set to get VERY cold starting in a day or so......it depends if your plants were sold outside or inside. If they were outside they will be acclimatised; otherwise keep them a tad longer inside.
Just bear in mind the festucas and carex require different conditions.....Elijah Blue likes it well drained and sunny; the carex likes it damp and shady although it is a very adaptable plant. :)

Hi @Verdun the Elijah blue and Carex where sold outside but the Festucas inside but I had two of those before in lilac and where they was situated they did grow plus got a nice haircut every 2wks :heehee:
It's very cold here and being the countryside you get dampness bad in the air, so I'm going to leave it another week but I do know the back Elijah's have adapted to it great and got the new ones from the same place plus the Carex will be going where it's half sunny besides shade.

Where the Fuctas will go is complete sun...as both our back and front are sun traps but by the windows to the property it gets just a bit of shade, so they should be ok.

You've got me going now concerning Grasses and especially since buying the Elijah's and seeing how striking the blue is in the sun.

Thanks for you advice your a :star: :)
