Sweet peppers, I find are very weather dependent. You sow and :fingers crossed: you get a good summer
I tried melons last year, I think it's what my kids describe as ' an epic fail ' :heehee:

I've grown melons ( or should I say 1 melon:heehee:) twice now from seed from a supermarket fruit. It was a lot of faffing around for only 1 each time..but they were tasty:yes:

The kids sowed impatiens :yikes: ancient seed
I told them, even if it's doubtful, there is always hope!
I do believe some of my old seed might germinate. Always hopeful :noidea:

@lowrider69 i believe the best outdoor cuc is marketmore, it's readily available too :blue thumb:
I've grown it in my greenhouse before and it's lovely :)
The weather here isn't good enough to grow cucs outside but you should be fine.
Outdoor cucs tend to have thick skins, ( someone will correct me if I'm wrong ) I think my marketmore did
Just peel them :blue thumb: makes them look posh in sandwiches :heehee:

yea I got 1 off my melon last year but it wilted, I cant seem to grow sweet peppers which is a shame I,m in south Devon so quite warm here.
I tend to try and grow foods at the back and flowers out the front, not done onions or carrot yet never done them before though, not sure how to get large onions or carrots to grow big and you only get 1 don't you?.

TBH Lowrider I'm not too successful with bell/sweet peppers, chillis grow no problem for me though. I'm growing the long, sweet peppers in the polytunnel, they didn't set fruit until the end of the summer.. same the year before. I just think they need a really long growing season and bit of help with pollination but that's just my own personal experience :/

just seen the bit about onions/carrots, I have found starting the onions off in cell trays works for me, they get a good root system down early and I normally transplant them out on a sunny day like today (but later on in March). I find the roots help get them established more quickly than just putting a set in the ground, I also cover with netting to stop the birds pulling. I haven't been succesful with onions from seed yet, I keep forgetting about them mid-season and then turn a blind eye

Carrots - i've been using a raised box last 2 years but have trouble with carrot fly even with using "resistafly" and "flyaway" seeds, I even put garlic in thinking it will deter them.. maybe its just straight up onions that work I don't know. The few decent carrots never make it home, they are so sweet and lovely to eat raw..but literally had like 5 the whole of last year. I'm going to try the small round type (chantenay) in tubs again this year with some envriomesh on the rasied box.. :fingers crossed:

I grew Cucino F1 for the first time last year; no greenhouse so they were started off in the propagator then moved out. Really tasty fruit and loads of it - far better than the full-sized varieties we tried.

Possible disaster today I asked my wife to open the greenhouse door later in the day if it got warm again, (still a frost about when i left for work) unfortunately she forgot and when i got home and went in the greenhouse 10 hours later the temperature had hit 39° during the day:thud: being in small cell trays the majority of my seedlings had seriously wilted, I've resoaked the capillary matting and had to spray them too but i think some are to far gone, hoping they will pick up overnight, just have to wait and see in the morning:fingers crossed:

Just sown a number of hardy perennials that require warmth and/or can be slow to germinate. Including Enkianthus campanulatus , Rehmannia elata and Schizostylis coccinea.
