    Hi

i bought this sunflower from the garden centre and the large one decided to close and a few others after a week or so, not sure why or whether it had just run its course, some new smaller ones have produced, what do i do with the old ones that have closed up? cut them off?

    thanks

I would deadhead them, will probably help promote more flowering

I would do as @Butterfly6 suggests and keep them well watered. Our sunflowers do not like being in the red hot heat of the sun either, they like some shade during the day.

I agree - it's certainly possible for them to struggle a bit with a lot of sun- especially in a pot, and also depending on the variety.
Deadheading will help to promote more buds/flowers, but the growing medium is possibly a factor. If it's peat free compost it's in - good luck!

If you can stop it forming seed the thinking is it should go on to produce more flowers, in a pot feeding and watering should help.
Maybe even potting it on at some point if it starts to look a bit sad.
