I bought this Salvia roemeriana for a couple of quid today.............

It's unlikely to be hardy unless we have an exceptionally mild winter but it is bursting with seed.

Although Leonotis nepetifolia is not a Salvia it is a close relative. Mine is just starting to bloom.........

The leaves have a fruity scent and it was about 24" high if that helps .

              Thanks

Not a tender perennial, longk? It seems to survive the winters here....

I doesn't even survive mild winters here. Self seeds freely though.

                      Thanks Longk , I knew you'd know :)

I'll see if they root then and if they do I'll keep then inside over the Winter ( I presume they're actually a perennial treated as an annual ?). I don't think I'll be getting any seed off them as they're only about 3" long .

PS..... How are they on the hardiness scale up against Armistad as I have no problems keeping those through the Winter outside.

Amistad is perennial but farinacea is an out and out annual doomed to perish at summer's end KFF. :)
However, cuttings may well be successful if taken in mid summer :)

I agree with @Verdun regarding the hardiness.
Amistad struggles to be hardy here even though both the parents (S.gesneriiflora and S.guaranitica) are hardy here. It's pretty pointless growing S.gesneriiflora outdoors though as it's a winter bloomer.

Love salvias but so many are invasive.
They mostly like to spread their roots quite widely so I dig them up every year and plant or pot up. From Blue Note to Uliginosa to Guaranitica etc., their roots are an issue down here esp, when they survive our winters

Nice problem to have! Up here Nachtvlinder is by far the worst.

                            Have you tried S.stolonifera?

It likes moist shade. I reckon that it would romp away down there.
