We are going to be hovering at the 30c mark this weekend. Like you, we've had a pretty chilly cool weeks leading up to summer. My zone is 6a.

Four of the seed packets I bought are from Burpee - Holland and their description is: Heavenly Goddess Mix extra large bloom, Burpee's Galaxy Mix bright colours, Old Spice Mix fragrant heirloom and High Scent most fragrant.

I also have a packet from McKenzie seeds here in Canada that name this variety Gwendoline - the picture shows pretty pink sweet peas.

All packages say 10-14 days to sprout. I hope I'm lucky and that's true!

I'm new to this uploading of pics malarkey (well everything really, but I'm a quick learner) hence failure of previous post.
This is a vase of 'Gwendoline' entered in a show.

"All packages say 10-14 days to sprout. I hope I'm lucky and that's true!"
Seed should take 7 to 21 days to germinate....but this when the temperatures here in the UK are about 10C.

I believe it is a modern grandiflora: "Matucana".

'Matucana' is extremely strongly scented....(as you say) this variety is a 'grandiflora' but 'heirloom' rather than 'modern' and is often confused with 'Cupani'.
The origins are unclear, but it may have originated in Peru.

For anyone interested in growing & showing of sweet peas, you may like to know that The Sweet Pea Society will be holding one of their annual shows at Wem in Shropshire on 16/17th July.....Wem is considered by many to be the home of the modern sweet pea, through the development work carried out by Henry Eckford during Victorian times.

Mention my name at the Eagle Sweet Peas' stand and perhaps we could say hello. :ccheers:

There should have been a link to their website here, alas, this forum doesn't seem to like posting links.

I'm quite excited. Many of the seeds that I put in a planter have germinated. I haven't checked the ones I scatter along the fence lines yet but :fingers crossed: If nothing happens there, I'll transplant these out there.

                    Too much fun!

I had an up and down experience growing SPs for several years. Sometimes very good sometimes pathetic. Following a suggestion on here I have grown SP Charlies Angels for the last 3 years. It is a super reliable performer with a nice scent and lovely colour . Last year was a very poor growing year and they perfomed 100%.
@David K , visited the Wem watering holes many times when I used to golf at Hawkstone park!:ccheers:

It was a link to the Wem SP show rather than Eagle's website that I tried to post........hope there isn't any other restrictions applying my account, I'm not accustomed to them.

Nice, healthy looking plants, Harry. :blue thumb:

David , I think the initial posting restrictions are to prevent spamming. @Zigs what is the restriction on posting time limit for new members?
