    I've no idea where our sewage goes after the tanker has taken it away. Never even thought about it :noidea:

    Our promised rain also disappears off the screen the closer we get to it supposing to happen.

      Agreed but I don't know where that may be as I guess it is local to the sewage company that empties our tank. It's not always the same company as I shop around for the best price. I have five companies on my contact list.

          We have a hosepipe ban starting Friday. I hope that means it'll start raining!

          I've just been out putting trays and saucers under as many of my pots as possible, and moving some of them into shadier areas. I'd probably have done this anyway because I'm going to be away Thursday to Monday and OH can't be trusted to remember to water things, and even if he does remember, he won't do a thorough job. Tomorrow night everything will get as good a watering as I can manage, then fingers crossed they survive while I'm away. After that it will be watering cans and bathwater.

          @JennyJB .
          Fill as big a container with water as you can. Put a little fertiliser in if you like. Instead of pouring water on your plants, dip them in the container of water until the bubbles stop.
          Obviously, this only works for pots you can. Bigger pots, I'm sure others will have advice

            I have a couple of buckets and sometimes do that with the smaller pots (but obviously only while I'm at home!). For while I'm away I will leave an inch or so of water in the trays/saucers and hopefully that will be enough to avoid total drying out over the five days that I won't be around to water them. My baskets and some of my containers are on drip irrigation anyway which is allowed (I checked last time we had a hosepipe ban).

            We had a hosepipe ban in Cornwall continuous from August 2022 to September 2023. A big learning curve for us down here. (SW water are the worst). What angered lots of us was that Air B&Bs of which there are lots here, having registered as a business were exempt so for example you would have been living in a semi-detached and unable to use a hosepipe for more than a year but your neighbouring house was able to use theirs, plus fill their hot tub and making free with the water. I have adapted my garden and don't water any beds plus have drastically cut down on pots and baskets now.

              Hosepipe bans are contagious, they are suggesting one could be on the cards here now.

              The school holidays (with the exception of the Scots who started theirs last week) aren't that far off, that'll sort the weather out. :biggrin:

                I cut down pots in 2022 and left only a Rosemary pot, a Curry plant pot and another one (forgot the name of the early flowering plant). All three will go after the summer (partly too big and have the pot outgrown). Only two planters by the bench will remain and watered with the excess water (3l a day) that we have.
                What plants do you have in your garden that can live with endless sunshine, heat and without any water over months, smallkernowgarden?

                Palms, Yuccas, phormiums and most shrubs or small trees once established.
                Anything slightly succulent like sedums always do well along with most bulbs.

                Of course if you are growing in sandy soil the watering problem gets worse, but with a subsoil of clay most things get there roots down into it given the chance.
                Herbaceous plants are usually the first for wanting water, or anything woodland type.
