I am still with a glass of wine looking at my awesome Zephrine rose, but in the front, off camera, is my honeysuckle vine and a hummer, then further out is my Kousa dogwood in bloom.

Well, I'm enjoying a very cold glass of Blush Pinto Grigio, although OH made me wait until 6 pm prompt!
Last night I made new labels for most of my roses (don't know where the originals have disappeared to) using my Brother labelling machine and black plastic labels so this morning I trotted round the garden tying them all on. I keep all the original labels in alphabetical order in a plastic box for reference purposes.
After lunch I dug up a clump of old delphiniums which keep being attacked by snails/slugs despite copper wire/tape etc. I've potted the clump on in the hope I can resurrect them and planted an easy going Gaura in its place. Tied in some roses/clematis and removed some weeds.

I've potted on an osteospermum grown from a cutting, and rescued an Impatiens that was looking thoroughly miserable and being attacked by slugs. To make matters worse, ants seem to have been nesting underneath.

*sighs* It's a war zone out there this yr. :th scifD36:

This morning was a garden visit in our village with members from the garden club. Some superb plants and the colours really standing out. A great visit and lovely to then sit and chat with friends over coffee and cake.
This afternoon sowed lollo rosso, chicory, courgette, peas, pak choi and kohl rabi in pots in the polytunnel. All late as we had to wait for the new tunnel to be erected. Had to do a big water in there having added bags of new compost to the existing soil.

I did a lot of mowing yesterday, as well as weeding, and started to have trouble with the mower. I diagnosed the problem correctly as it being grass clogging up the underneath.

The mower is too heavy for me to turn it over and I can't do the bending needed for cleaning it. So I plugged the hose into the attachment on the mower and managed to get the mower started for it to do a self clean.

A horrible mucky job as it leaves a load of green sludge on the ground. I let that dry overnight and then raked it up and it completely filled a bucket :yikes:. Note to self:- clean it more often. Do I take any notice of my good instructions? Naw!!! :nonofinger:

So, today, after clearing all that gunge I then had quite a bit to do as we have over 20 people coming for afternoon tea next Sunday (charity event). I barrowed 25 chairs from the shed (takes about 30 minutes - used to only take 15 minutes 50 years ago) then started tidying up the shed. Moved the 20ft gazebo to the front of the shed and shall put it up if the weather looks as though it will be inclement.

Mrs Shiney is clearing some of the accumulated odds and ends that has half filled the car port and I have had to dispose of or store it all. :phew:

Between us we have also filled a wheelie bin with weeds today. I'm taking a well earned rest whilst she is carrying on working. I'll do another hour of mowing when the sun goes down a bit.

Planted up a border with gladioli, cosmos, verbena bonariences and snapdragons. For the next few days it's going to be raining on and off so i hope that the cosmos will survive the slugs this year, I've put crushed egg shells around them.

With rain forecast for tomorrow and Monday I did some overtime in the garden today. Worst job first, removing an infestation of scale insects in the scale and white fuzz stage from my multi stemmed mature Acer Japonicum. They were all over the lower stems. It took about an hour of gentle rubbing with a dry washing up brush, a soft wire brush and water and a toothbrush, followed by a hosing down (of the tree, although I felt I needed one too:)).

I then swept the steps and path in my lower garden AGAIN, trees are lovely but they’re messy! Once that was done I cut both lawns and edges, moved a Geum into the front garden and replaced the sulky Clematis on my obelisk with a Thunbergia in a mixed shade of orange and red, like a tropical sunset. Much more cheerful! I cleared a couple of borders of fallen leaves and debris then packed up after 4 hours. I normally set a time limit of 3! Rain, welcome tomorrow, I’m done:phew:.
