Dug over the patch where the brassicas where last winter, next inhabitants will be sweetcorn and squashes.
Brought some more garden compost down to the greenhouse for potting up tomatoes into their final pots. Currently got 18 plants of different varieties. Strimmed the longer grass along a path prior to running the lawn mower over it. Repotted some squashes into larger pots, watered as required.

Last week I spent a couple of afternoons removing all the gravel from around the edge of this bed and along part of the boundary wall. The lawnmower blade was catching them.

I started filling with topsoil today ready for grass seeding, but that came to a halt as I need a lot more.

After that I tackled some of the ivy that's growing over and through the stone walls.

We've finished the power washing of the paving all round the terrace, with the exception of the front terrace where we're awaiting a visit from a builder on Thursday. It may or may not have to be demolished and rebuilt.
Power washing is a very noisy and dirty job, we've had to rinse it all twice. I think we'll go back to using a patio cleaner next time!

          It is raining!!!!!!!!!!!
After I spent 2 hours watering last night. Of course.
The garden is beginning to look like a wasteland as the weeds start dying off. I will soon have a massive clearing up to do. The water forget me not is a picture at the moment, a haze of blue over the pond.
My idea to put daffodils over the lilies seems to be working, The daffs have gone over and dying down while the lilies have come through and hide the dead foliage. I hope I haven't been sold a pup as the liles are not as tall as I was expecting. Time will tell.

Finally finished the cage for the Brassicas at the plots. Plants are all in now, 8 each of cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and sprouts. There's a bit of space left, I might put a few kale plants in later. Hopefully I've not missed any gaps and the pigeons don't find their way in. One of my plot neighbours is still finding them getting in to his netting. His is just loosely draped over sticks, hopefully my extra efforts will remain secure.
This picture is from a previous year, but it looks the same. 20190520_131307_IMG_0533.JPG

Still clearing the leaves of the spring bulbs, weeding and cutting off the old flower stalks of the polyanthus, nearly finished.

Had great fun with the electric shears pruning the ivy behind the shrubs. Next comes the boring bit.
Is chop and drop still a 'thing'?

It’s still a thing here @BB3 and always has been. I was quite thrilled to find I was apparently ahead of the curve and not just lazy/untidy when everyone started talking about chop and drop :yahoo:

I will be running around making sure all my pots and seedlings get a thorough soaking before we go on holiday tomorrow. About half of the seedlings are done and in shadier spots to harden off, just the rest to do.

I also want to deadhead the roses. They are all looking fabulous this year and some are getting ready to put on a wonderful show in the next few days whilst we are away. I can’t bear to deadhead any still in their prime but will go through and snip off all those just past their peak.

Am also feeling guilty about hoping the forecast is wrong and praying for lots of sunshine and dry weather where we will be on holiday and rejoicing in the amount of rain showing on our forecast at home and hoping it’s accurate!
