Cut back the Deschampsia and Pannicum grasses then pruned my Rosa moyesii. I suspect though that a couple of the big tall stems I carefully pruned might be suckers from the rootstock.

Potted up bare root plants from Parkers, moved stuff around in the greenhouse watering as required. Wandered under the trees checking on how the naturalised snowdrops are doing. On the front grass the Crocus tomassinianus were fully open in the sun smelling strongly of honey.

I got plug plants of Russelia and Abutilon megapotamicum from Spain yesterday so potted them up this morning. Also found a Cyclamen(with buds) hiding in the empty pots area (have no idea how it got there) so potted it also.

I've spent a good 3 hours in the garden. I've cleared the end bed and part of the long border, cut down two more group 3 clematis, just one to go but it's gone into a small tree where I can't reach it - Minuet, a viticella. I've planted 11 group 3 since we've been here but I think Purpurea elegans has died.

I mulched the end bed with leaf mould.

I pruned the For Your Eyes Only persica rose, a bit harder this year as it grew so huge last year.

              Busy Lizzie indeed then

For Your Eyes Only is the only non David Austin rose we have in the garden anymore. It is amazing. Those thorns though...! I pruned ours a few days ago, and it needed a lot of caution.

IMG_9332.JPG IMG_9338.JPG @CostasK that rose was a present from a friend. I love it, despite the thorns. It has masses of flowers nearly all the time right into autumn.

Volunteer day at Capel Manor, more pruning. Also had to tie up a Nandina, as it was leaning on top of an Edgeworthia, making it spread out and go bare in the centre.

@Busy-Lizzie that makes it even more special. Your friend made an excellent choice. It looks stunning when it's in bloom. I I don't normally mind the thorns, it just needs some extra care when pruning. I missed a few blooms while deadheading last season and I noticed while pruning that they turned into red rose hips - I didn't even know it produces nice rose hips.

Oooh, you've just reminded me of the one I've missed. That same variety, and also right up a tree in the front garden. Thankyou.

Warm-ish and sunny day yesterday, so I pruned half of the roses and cut back the old leaves on the pulmonaria whilst OH built me a new planter for the blueberries, as the old one is rotting away.

Resisted the urge to mow the lawn whist it was dry. Glad I did as it's frosty this morning!

Washed the car! I know, I know, there are urgent plant things that need doing, but the layer of salt and assorted muck had grown so thick, I could barely see its lovely green paint. And I did do it in the front garden, kind of! :dbgrtmb:

It is now restored to the colour of those smileys and back in the garage, waiting to be joined by all my frost-adverse plants at tea-time.

Cut back a Dogwood, I know it's a bit early but I need access to the fence panel behind as I am trying to get around to finish the wood treatment I started last year. I treated the shed and did a bit of the fence, just to finish up what I had poured out and what was on the brush. After complaints from management that "it looks awful, and why only do a bit of it?" I thought I had better take advantage of a couple of dryer days, before all the plants really get going again. Just had late lunch better get back out there!!

The thermometer said 6C just before lunch but it felt much colder with a nippy breeze. I eventually went to do 30 mins more mulching later in the afternoon. I've finished last year's leaf mould and started the bought compost.
