I'm not complaining about the noise of your chainsaw, @Retired. :) I just avoid adding to the overall decibel levels of life today. :spinning:

Having worked for 50yrs in a very noisy enviroment, machinery doesn't bother me, but other peoples music just drives me round the bend.
Machinery stops, a radio just grinds on and on.
Rap music is the worst followed by dance music, probably not got the right terms there.

I even hate it when people play the type of music I actually like, it just seems that in the garden is the wrong time and place.

I bet I could introduce you to some opera worse than rap, @pete. Try Wagner for starters! :hate-shocked: Some great bits, but in amongst a whole lot of wailing ... IMVHO. And Beethoven's only opera, Fidelio, is a right glum-fest.

          Hi,

          I couldn't agree with you @ViewAhead I worked in heavy industry for many years as @pete did and the noise was part of the job; we just got used to it; one of the noisiest jobs I had was in a huge blanket mill with hundreds of looms going full belt; we all could lip read in those long ago days;

WORMALD AND WALKER BLANKET MILL, DEWSBURY

Life and work was hard but people seemed much happier then possibly because we were all skint so were equals.

Rapping; YUKKKK and what's garage music; each generation grows up having to invent something new; mine was the 60's which I doubt will ever be beaten; there were lots of rubbish songs even then like when the Beatles were off their head on drugs but there were so many first rate groups with songs once heard were remembered for life unlike much of the modern stuff. I couldn't stand the Osmond or Jacksons kids which made my toes curl but a lot did like them; I'm unsure of their dates but I won't lose sleep over it. I have 200 of my favourite songs on memory stick I play through a 12V car radio in the workshop hooked up to a power supply; it can't be heard outside.

I often remark to the checkout assistants in Morrison's I think someone is being strangled.

I too dislike music being played outside @pete especially by builders; there's even site radios? Opera is terrible too but I can turn it off and like sport I couldn't be paid to watch it.

Another full day of rain forecast for tomorrow but Sunday looks brighter; I have a friend visiting on Sunday so the earliest I can get into the garden will be Monday. My life is wizzing by at an alarming pace.

          Kind regards, Col.

Agree, machinery is used out of necessity to get something done, "background music" is just pollution.

Rap music is awful because the songs often take parts from old classics and just when I start to hum along with ...briiidgee oveer troubleed waaater... it suddenly changes to DOOM DOOM DOOM DOM DO DO DO DOOM ...I will laaay me doown... DOOM DOOM DOM DO DO DO DOOM

Sorry for off topic, regarding gardening toilings I instructed The Child to rip out the last tomato plants, Cosmos and any other large whatnots to fill the bin ready for the last collection of the year. I have also agreed to a quote to remove the inherited kennel and browsed online for Tulip bulb offers looking for the magical -90%.

Clearly I'm not a gardener but a project manager :biggrin:

I recognise that bit it's the orc drums from the Fellowship of the Ring just before Gandalf faces the Balrog.
As for opera Wagner takes a bit of beating, but Britten's Peter Grimes is bad as is Il Trovatore

I was just about to defend opera via my beloved Mozart who certainly was the Freddie Mercury of his day but then realised that actually, he perhaps invented rap.

                Pa-pa-pa-pa-pa.... Pa-pa-geno?.... pa-pa-pa-pa-pa.... Papagena...?

I have a soft spot for Mozart as a performance of The Magic Flute dug me out of a hole some 30+ years ago, personally I prefer Don Giovanni. His tunes were often whistled around Salzburg the morning after the first performance.

I can sing along to every note of the first two acts of Marriage of Figaro. :) A level set work. ;) Silly story, sublime music.

Today, when it gets light, am going to move all my tender plants into their winter configuration and get the protection needed down from the top of the garage shelving, in readiness for 2 degrees on Monday night. :hate-shocked:

@ViewAhead fortunately I got all my tender plants into the greenhouse this past week, the only one that is still outside is Salvia "Amistad" near the front door and that should be alright and I've got rooted cuttings this year.

I managed Amistad outside for a few winters, but it finally expired. It seems OK to about minus 3 here, but anything lower is a killer.

Not having a greenhouse makes overwintering tender things a bit labour intensive, but it is nice to have the early flowering in the spring.

No gardening the past 2 days, errands to run Thursday, rain all day yesterday.
I've just bailed 2 1/2 cans (approx 30 litres) of water out of the patio pond. It only feels like a couple of weeks ago I was having to top it up as it was so low. More bulb planting today, still got lots of tulips to put in somewhere. We must be more diligent with all the pots and make proper notes about flowering etc
I'm sure some are not performing, and need to be disposed of.

I picked up a pack of violas from Morrisons yesterday and this morning planted them in the big pots near the front door at least they'll cover the soil until the minature narcissi break cover.

I’ve finally moved my Pelargoniums etc to the back ‘porch’ and a couple inside. I really need to clear some wind fall apples but I can’t quite face it. One year a big group (?) of Fieldfare descended and had a feast on grubs and worms, so that’s my excuse for leaving most of them. Last garden bin emptying next week so I’m trying to fill fill fill.
