I like the idea of rhubarb and honey.
We don't grow rhubarb - yet. I'd like to. But OH has other ideas. Flowers!!! Inedible ones!!

Picked some more rhubarb but haven't ever done what @Logan has done. Sounds good. Bottled up the next primrose wine and then after seeing more dandelions in flower collected all of them and have started the next wine batch. Used to do dandelion wine decades ago but then something happened and it all went wrong, so having another go.

Have planted out my Impatiens and, whilst on a roll, started a new hole, but when I went to sieve the stones out of the soil, there were a fair number of ants, so now am not sure whether my little brachycome will be happy there. Pity, as it is perfect in terms of sun and shelter.

My garden is an exclusion zone again today because of the merrily flowering Rowans :rolleyespink:. I’ve been for a walk by the sea instead, just people with ice creams and seagulls to avoid there .

Keep us posted @On the Levels , i havent made wine in years - pea pod was a great favourite of mine as was damson and cracked wheat . Tea bag wine made a surprisingly good sherry. I grew my own peas and a friend gave me the damsons but i had to buy in the other ingredients

I'm interested to know what hazard people eating ice cream pose, @Plantminded! Seagulls, I get, obviously, given we are overrun with them here! :th scifD36:

@Robert Bowen I only use what is in the garden. Normally I would also do elderflower after the primroses but we had to cut back the huge elder tree so no wine this year. All I do is collect the flowers/fruit, add them to 6 litres of boiling water and leave to infuse for 3 days. Filter and add 2 and a half pounds of sugar and wine yeast. Put in demijohns and leave to ferment, probably 6 weeks. Nothing else is added. Must say the primroses this year have been outstanding and the wine very good and clear. After collecting the primrose flowers the plants just produce more flowers so a win win for all.

I cant recall when i last made my own wine , the relentless plop of the airlocks and the anticipation of a good glass of wine as the end result of one’s efforts. The last brewing i did was home made cherry brandy with cherries from the garden steeped in eau de vie in a gallon Rumtopf jar. I no longer have cherry trees , but i still have some potent cherry liquor !

I completed the first side yesterday. Admittedly it's more like a crinkle-crankle wall (Norfolk and Suffolk residents will understand) than a decent border, but it gives the garden a touch of individuality.

I completed the other section today. I seem to have got the hang of this.

The other two sides are bounded by grass, so there is no need to brick the borders.

Hiding in the house! It's just gone up to 26.5c here.

More watering when it's cooler tonight methinks.

They walk too slowly and not straight ahead while they devour their tasty treats, causing obstacles for determined walkers like me . Not hazards, but they need to be avoided!

Honey is a lot better than sugar, it brings out the flavour of the rhubarb.
I used to make wine, ginger wine was nice, it was bubbly even though that wasn't the intention.

Watered the polyanthus around the path and some of the tubs.

Despite the hot weather, I managed to cut the front and back lawns, and have a quick tidy up. Last evening had a good watering session in anticipation of the next couple of hot days. The water butts (200+100L) are empty once again. Had to resort to the hose to finish watering, which gave me a chance to blast the lupin and rose aphids.

We had a mini swarm of umpteen wasps buzzing around, all being very busy searching nooks and crannies. I'm presuming they are queens that have come out of hibernation and are looking to nest. Fingers crossed they'll buzz off where they won't be disturbed, and they don't disturb my dog (which has the potential to disturb the vet).
