Sadly nada. Just got back from a trip to the garden center ... and they were closed!!! It turns out it is a National Holiday here (Corpus Christi) but I thought Garden Centers would be open.

Oh well, there's always tomorrow with my list.

I didn't get much done as I'd been busy with inside stuff most of the day but when I got back, I found the raised beds to have a very nice watering from the rain so planted out three more cannabis seedlings to replace the ones that I had to rip out, throttle and dispose of because they turned male. Useless and destructive things. All they do is try to shower the females with pollen and then the females produce seedy flowers. :paladin:

And refilled the bird bidet. It was on the ground so I'm guessing a raccoon tried to circumvent the electric fence maybe got a nasty jolt and so paid me back for the insult by swiping it off the rail.

It's been so hot here the past few days so have had to water a lot. I'm trying for a more scented garden this year so put some Nicotiana alata and Night phlox in pots on the back patio as well as in the borders and also the sweet peas are doing well. I've been having to cloche the Dahlia and salvia Amistad in the borders each night as the moment any new growth comes through the sneaky slugs and snails get them :phew:

The border I had the conifers removed from last year is looking beautiful thanks for all the recommendations on here for plants :dbgrtmb:

It has been about a week since I posted on here so can't remember what we've done :heehee:. Lots and lots of weeding. The bonfire heap is back up to 4ft high, compost heaps are getting quite full as the grass is growing like mad, filled our three wheelie bins with nasty weeds - plus topping up four of our neighbours' bins, planted out more beans (still another 100 to go) and finished putting up the pigeon scarers around the veg plot.

So far this week we have planted up 20 x 35L tubs for the patio and have another 8 on order (only £1.98 each in the trade warehouse that I've been a member of for 40 years) but they don't restock until next week. Four hanging baskets filled. That has now made some space in our greenhouse for me to walk into.

Mrs Shiney has been doing all the greenhouse work as there wasn't enough floorspace for my size 12 feet. She has also taken the cobaea out of the greenhouse and planted over a dozen of them (some already 3ft high) and I shall put up climbing frames for more of them (bought some metal ones yesterday to set against the fence that Mrs Shiney has repainted (Sea Grass colour).

We have a wild area at the back of the garden but the tall grasses tend to seed in the non-wild area. I'm now working on clearing those in the non-wild area next to it. :phew: That area is over 600sq ft and full of flowers - apart from the area being totally dominated by 4ft high grass that is flowering and about to seed . I now can't dig out the grass (will have to wait until Autumn/Winter) so have started pulling the long flowering stems up. That's a lot harder than I thought it would be and have spent two hours on it so far and expect the rest to take at least that long.

The garden has a lot of garlic mustard (Jack-by-the-hedge) growing everywhere but is easy to pull out. It takes time as I first need to check each leaf for orange tip butterfly eggs. It doesn't grow much in the wild area  but we have a largish nettle patch there for the red admirals, painted lady and other butterflies.

Nearly watered the front garden. Was very close to start cleaning the pond pump, and considered planting the two Cosmos foundlings into the large planter with their siblings. Made plans.

It has been a busy week at work, I guess my gardening today will be limited to chopping kitchen herbs to sprinkle over our dinner. Tomorrow with a renewed vigour I hope!

                            Happy weekend all :)

Spent the past couple of days digging out hundreds of bluebells that had spread like a virus. They have been consigned to our garden waste bins and these will be emptied tomorrow. Have also been busy with the hoe killing weeds while it remains hot and dry and have also had the electric scarifier on our largest lawn and raked out a mass of moss and thatch that is now slowly steaming on the compost heap :-)
Picked our first Little Gem summer lettuce in the polytunnel - we picked our last autumn sown lettuce four weeks ago so it's nice to have fresh on the go again.
