    Tomorrow start planting these polyanthus around the path which came yesterday, got 90 plants altogether.

      Well I did get distracted once again.. Cut down all the Golden Rod, dug up and ditched 3 big clumps of Catananche Caerulea and moved some other plants to more appropriate places. Fuchsias tomorrow...?:blue thumb:

        Been clearing the front bed of plants this evening, I do have good soil in this garden its a glorious black crumbly gold just to make everyone envious :stirpot: . I temporary potted the plants up until I clear the rest of the site. The winter and maybe the snails have seen off my indigofera pendula :sad: in the corner of that bed took me ages to get hold of one . I've got a long list of jobs in the garden it just seem to go dark so early now.

            We don't have time to cope with tender plants so anything not that hardy has to take their chances :noidea:.

            the usual Autumn tidy up is in progress so cutting back of shrubs is a major thing at the moment and all the dogwood is scheduled today. Apart from our green waste wheelie bins (collected every week :blue thumb:) the compost heaps are growing as is the bonfire heap. also, at this time of year, four one ton bags full of cut backs go for recycling each fortnight. :phew:

            In the last two weeks we have dug up plants to fill forty boxes (about 2ft x 3ft - courtesy of Budgens) that have gone to two charity gardens. One garden is a sensory garden for the blind and the other is a residence for people with learning difficulties that has a normal garden and a sensory garden. Their favourite plant is Stachys so I dug up another six boxes yesterday. They spread like mad in our garden :dbgrtmb:.

            I've spent most of the last two weeks trying to dig out the violets but I'm sure someone is following me and replanting them :hate-shocked:.

                Planning on clearing a corner and digging in / setting up a compost bin as Suffolk council do not collect food waste.

                In Essex where we moved from the council collected food waste weekly, before that we had a compost bin but ended up with a rat family living in there! I lifted the lid one evening and a big rat was sitting there having his dinner! Going to put some mesh under it, hoping that will stop it happening again.

                First job, with a cup of tea, is research to remind me the best layering system for making compost.

                  I've always had rats in the compost bin although no cooked food goes in. I just think they like a warm place to bed down and have accepted they'll be there

                    Portsmouth council is introducing food waste collection. Can't collect really much, as all raw (only) fruit and veg based waste gets into my compost bin ar the back of the garden.

                      For us the food waste goes in with the other rubbish that can't be recycled. But our raw fruits and veggies go in the compost bins, never had trouble with rats in there but we have those plastic ones but I know that they could chew through that.
