Today i received my christmas prezzie :-) was told i prob wouldnt get it before xmas and they offered to send my mum a certificate for me to open on xmas day lol

But my hot bin has arrived so been moving stuff to make room for it and its now in situ

Have you checked to see whether the birds are armed with water pistols?

Sweeping up the last of the leaves. I've also been growing some sweet peas indoors which are now out in my new cold frame for winter.

Otherwise, it's mostly just patrolling the plants to keep an eye on how everything is doing and planning for next year. My viburnum tinus haven't flowered this year but the Hellebores are now going gangbusters with buds.

I've got a fair amount going on inside the house with Hippeastrum 'sumatra' growing for me and for presents. Hyacinth pot now brought inside and buds are growing fast. Finally my first crop of indoor grow light cut and come again lettuce is ready for harvesting :)

what a beautiful day it's been here, clear sky, sunny and really enjoyable time. Put my goliath lilies in and general tidy up. Tomorrow (Sunday) forcast rain, so that will do the garden good as well. Really nice now sitting in the conservatory cuppa in hand watching the robin hard at work

think it is dry enough out there today, will do some leaf raking, dragging the leaves to the woods.

                Ok, confession time.

I've been wanting to do it for about a month now, but the weather was never quite right.....

.....every weekend, I kept looking out of the window, but it was always raining, or frost would coat the ground......

.....then today, it was mild, breezy and invitingly dry outside.....

.....I tried to resist. But in the end, I just couldn't help myself, it just had to be done, so I went ahead and did it.....

......on the shortest day of the year, in the darkest depths of December......

.....I mowed the lawn..... "snow plough"

It really needed doing too. The mild weather of the past few weeks combined with our sheltered garden and free draining soil meant that the grass just kept on growing, to the point where it was looking quite long and scruffy.

The neighbours probably think I'm mad. :rolleyespink: :hapfeet::hapydancsmil: :chrissy grin:

I've been wanting to do it all year but felt bad... Today I chopped down our Fatsia japonica to the base with two tiny shoots left. It was getting spindly and growing across the sunniest part of the bed where I want Dahlias next year. In early spring, I'll try moving the stump with shoots to our shadiest corner. I hope it does survive but I think it was a necessary sacrifice as it was in entirely the wrong spot.

I worked in the garden for the first time in weeks and it had turned into a beast.
Shamefully my tomato plants were still in situ with old slimey rotting toms hanging off  :mute:

So spent the day raking leaves, filling the compost, trimming back shrubs and generally tidying up (should have been done ages ago but I haven't been in gardening mode lately). Still plenty of work to do but made a good start and it looks better, so much new growth on things. Knee and back feeling a bit rickety though :old: so time for a hot shower and a glass or two of vino.

At last, a sunny day here today, so planted a couple of sweet cherry trees and checked over the frost protection ready for tonight!
