I started planting out annuals today and will continue until the weekend......no doubt I'll be dodging the rain showers that are promised.

Spent this morning planting out more dahlias, potting on congested shrubs and a rose, tidying the 'industrial area' now we've burned most of it, feeding bulbs and watering everything in the greenhouse.
I've also begun deadheading the bluebells as they finish- really starting to dislike them! Accidentally pulled up one of my aquilegias in doing so as well. :frown:

I know how you feel about the Bluebells Charlie. I don't let them get as far as finishing but top them as soon as I see them in bloom. They're in my garden by self invitation and I can't see where they came from in the neighbourhood, they are also starting to come up in my lawns, so it's war!

I was going to continue planting out annuals today but the weather has decided differently, so all I've done is wash pots and trays and the canes have been pushed in for the tomatoes.

Planted up some Cosmos. Did a bit of watering and weeding. Emptied out a container and chucked some foxgloves that vine weevil grubs had demolished. Came back inside as the weather has turned vile!

Chopped a young tree (planted by bird/wind) down, chopped down more hedging, chopped down tonnes of ivy and brambles - garden is getting there, slowly but surely.
In the brutal stage at the moment, taming the jungle

A nice spring sunnyish day today and for a change mild at 17c so got on with one of the many jobs on my to-do list, getting rid of an overgrown, sparse and falling over photina - been steadying it with guy ropes and all sorts the last few years but its time was up sadly. Clearing the bed underneath was a right chore too, stubborn weeds and all sorts, bones (old doggy ones I hope!) bits of coal ...

Didn't like doing it, but glad I did as what was around it has a lot more space to grow properly and the aspect is much more open now. Also have a new part of that bed to think about ....

Tired now time for a glass of vino.

After reading what you guys have been doing today my little bit seems feeble. Managed two coats of protection on the garden / seat / table thingy. Painted the house lecky box and a wee garden concrete frog. Then planted out the last of the Asters and binned the failures. Now it's chunking it down but this red is delightful. Have a good evening everyone.. Oh yes, it's raining now. But that was a certainty after I topped up the rain water barrel!

Your garden looks grand @Gay Gardener - a credit to you :)

I didn't get as much done today as I had planned - firstly because I had to go shopping for a few bits, then I had a long diversion on the way home (two roads shut on my usual way home, and gas works on the shorter of two diversions); then, I had to spend ages sorting out the broadband and wifi - for some unknown reason there was a power cut during the night last night, and it threw my router and modem into disarray - my modem is a heap of junk (Virgin Superhub, and there is nothing super about it!) so it took me about an hour and a half of faffing about to get things going once more.

When I finally got into the garden, I made a sort of 'step' thing, essentially three bits of decking board and two bags of slate - although it needs a couple more bags of slate to look right. I will get a proper picture tomorrow, but here is a rough idea:

                    2015-05-27 11.15.59.jpg

Sadly, neither the walls nor the existing step or even the lawn is level, so I have had to install everything I have added to match as best I can - - at least everything looks as though its on the lash :snork:

Thereafter, I continued breaking up the large lumps that were once part of the lawn, along with persuading more creeping buttercup out....

There are so many weeds lurking, you are not getting to see the photos until I have it sorted

I totally agree! A medium sized thermo-nuclear device is generally recommended to totally get rid of them :heehee:

Retail therapy at the garden centre been put off until tomorrow, hubby had changed his shift to afternoon's....

All I managed to do garden wise, was watering and sitting in it.... Tis the sitting in it that has stressed me, as I was trying to do my Med's course work... Time is running out and I've got to get modules back for marking.... And yesterday, given a list of courses to come from my manager which a couple will be done at the same time agahhh...

We put some shading up the greenhouse as the plants and young veggies were starting to wilt with the heat. It's much better in there now and cooler.

I also painted some terracotta pots and troughs and filled them full of plants. They will look lovely when in flower.
