Was going to use the seeds from a fresh roma tomato like I did last year but came across a pack of seeds that look very promising so will be making soil blocks and get these guys going. Got an hour to accomplish this so I won't be late going to the pub...;)

Did some chopping this weekend. Chopped out the Hellebore leaves a little late, and chopped back the Sambucus and Buddleia a little early.

It's interesting you left your Sambucus until now Jack. I pruned mine back at the end of October when most of it leaves had dropped.

I did mine about a month ago. As long as it's gone dormant do you think it matters? I wonder if we'll see any difference? Does chopping back earlier give stronger regrowth?

No I don't suppose it makes a lot of difference when it's cut back Loofah. I don't know about the regrowth yet. Mine spent it's first year in the garden and got battered all through that year, so it never really came to anything. It spent last year in a pot in a sheltered place and did much better. I'll have to wait and see how it makes up this year.

Oh, whoops. I read on RHS I think that they recommend the end of winter. But I had been thinking earlier would be better because it started forming buds as soon as the leaves dropped. So would think your timing was better Sheal as it could have had more buds at the stump by now.

I guess we can compare how they perform now? :)

It looks great in a pot Sheal.

I'm thinking of only hard pruning every two years because I really love the flowers.

I agree, I just can't get out into the garden to do anything. The ground it saturated and any movement it becomes a mud bath so decided to say off it until the weather dries out a bit. Its so frustrating as this time last year I had lots done

I finally finished getting in our new pergola posts over the weekend, the person who had the house before must have loved concrete, were our pergola is going, I had to break through 12" of solid concrete.

I had a wander around the garden this morning before work but like others are saying my lawn is more like a swamp! The hens aren't helping the situation, they are scratching/digging it up looking for worms & grubs! :nonofinger: I've laid some paving slabs on the lawn from the gate to the hens run because it was getting so slippery. I have lots of changes to make to the garden this year!
