Young men can often out drive we older players, but as we say, "It ain't how far, it's how many."

You have to be able to chip and putt. If you only two putt every green, that's 36 shots gone. Then add to that 18 tee shots, that's 54. So "the bit in the middle," becomes very important. It's all about being able to string shots together.

I'll be giving the lawn some iron sulphate through the summer. It looks a bit rough now, but it'll end up like this in the summer. I'm not into stripes, I've a Flymo and all it gets is a quick "wizz over." No need for edging as their are hard surfaces on both sides, a line of block paving bricks on the left and the path and patio on the right, are level with the lawn.
It's the bits at the edge in the shadow of the heavy planting on the left, where I occasionally get a few small moss patches, but they soon go.

I’ve tried to use granular lawn feed here but the dogs eat it. Maybe a liquid will be better.

This mornings jobs were not on my "to do" list. I had discussed the idea of a specimen tree/shrubs in a particular space on my patio. It occurred to me that I already had a bush in a pot. Moving it gave me a 2for. It's now out of the way until I am ready to deal with it properly.

Before I moved the pot I cleaned out the space behind it. This area was full of rubbish and a LOT of stones/ rubble. I dug out as much as practicable. The little bit and pieces I left in. I mixed in some multipurpose compost and bark chippings. I will need to find something to put in there. Something with big leaves that will thrive in shade.

The pot has had nothing done to it for years. Today I scraped away the top layer of dry soil. I replaced it with a mix of compost and bonemeal and then topped it off with bark chipping.

I'm quite pleased with my mornings work even if it has put me behind on other more important jobs.

                :snorky:

Gary, a fern would look good there; nothing better in my opinion than Dryopteris Cristata The King. For shape, low maintenance and style grow this :) Plus, it is absolutely fascinating to see the new fronds unfurl at this time of year
Mix in some dried manure into the planting area too

Gail, nice but consider hubby's pocket as you spend all his money!! Ha ha:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Ooo! My strawberry runners have arrived. Soaking them for 20 mins or so then will plant them up. Now all I need is to add real cornish clotted cream in summer :Wino:

Many years ago, a friend who was fitting new valves to the head of his car's engine, put the head in the dishwasher to give it a good clean...Whilst his wife was at work.
