Spent about three hours in the garden, just generally tidying up, collecting leaves and doing a bit of weeding. Wanted to do some hoeing, but can't, too many bulbs that might get damaged.
Cut the grass, got half a box-full off it. Gave everything a feed. I work on the basis, that if it's showing signs of life, give it one. Can't say that it looked any different from yesterday when I'd finished. P1020323.JPG

IMG_20190214_162634379.jpg Just taken another 4 Gunnera manicata offsets off the big mamma plant. I forgot to properly cover the plant this year. Usually i lay a roll of loft insulation over it but really couldnt be bothered with bagging it up in the spring again, itchy as hell,so just put some fleece over it.

So this year i snapped a few offsets off and planted them up into individual pots. They had healthy white roots but yheir crowns looked a bit iffy?

        Lets see what happens.......

Very busy and shattering day today ; at first light we felled , sectioned and chipped four very large and very old but badly cankered fruit trees .
They were surviving in a quiet village garden until we arrived @ 07-15am ; the large Timberwolf chipper earned its daily hire rate today ; capable of processing 5-tons of wood per hour , I suppose they justify their 16.5K pricetag !!
The endless cacophany of the chipper plus two Stihl chainsaws must have been heaven for the neighbours :yikes: !!!
Oh well , the necessity of earning a living  !

Finished filling the compost bin. Sowed a load more seeds, many types of petunia and lobelia plus diascia - heliotropium, bit annoyed with some brand new petunia seeds cost £3 for 15seeds all but 3 were crushed to smithereens  cost me a fiver to replace including P+p. Pricked out the pelargoniums and potted on.

Think I'll try and mow the lawn tomorrow, its been a really nice day today mostly a tshirt day , tomorrow supposed to good as well but probably have a frost in the morning.

I'm still working on tidying the nursery areas and filled another wheelie bin with leaves and muck. Some of the pots looked as though the plants were dead but they may just still be dormant. I can tell as a lot of the pots have lost there labels, mainly to blackbirds pulling them out :noidea:. Others still have labels in but with some of them the words have rubbed off!

I've been hosing the paving down as I go along. Note to self:- try and work out why it's spraying water out of the connector!

I also started on one of the front beds by the house that gets covered in moss. To save my back I use one of these so I don't have to bend so low. I filled one large bucket and then carried on with the pots.

Beautiful sunny, warm and calm day again yesterday :yay:. Had 3 hours in garden. Strimmed grass in one of the bun runs, strimmed grass in side garden. I didn't bother to rake up the cuttings as thinking if I leave it to lie it will rot down and feed the grass - I hope. Tried out new grass clippers bought from Wilkos on some overhanging grass next to the path.

Uprooted plants from a pot, dug up two Heleniums from out front and replanted in cherry tree bed - now I'm not sure I like them there :dunno: :heehee:. The cherry tree bed is a bit on the dry side so I'm debating whether to add some grasses in with the flowers. I have some grasses out front I could move, but they are not large enough to divide so I would need to buy more. I'm trying to keep spending down on the garden this year.

Swept most of the path ( it runs all the way around the house ) and had a wander about doing a little tidying. Counted 24 molehills in front garden - Moles are very busy :loll:.Whilst tidying up I noticed that the Astrantias and Astilbes seem to have vanished. Is this normal? I've not grown them before, used to plants just dying back not disappearing.

I saw huge Bee feeding on the heather. Unfortunately the heather, along with a few other plants, seems to have been affected by last year's hot weather. It bloomed as normal in spring and then had a second bloom in November. It's almost gone over now. The primroses were the same.

@luciusmaximus youve been busy! Astilbes will die back and regrow. Not sure about astrantias as not grown them before.

Ah thanks Shiney that’s so kind. :imphrt:

Didnt do an gardening yesterday as was travelling back home from mums.

Lovely sunny day today and if I start to feel well enough I want to get into the greenhouse and start sowing more seeds and pricking out some others that have germinated rapidly!

Prune rambling rose, then put in spare angle iron to act as additional fence support now neighbours fenceposts have completely collapsed, pulling over the chain link.

Lucius, your heleniums will struggle, certainly not look their best, in that dry area.
Yes astrantias and astilbes will have died down but, same as heleniums and more so, they need moisture in the soil.

Upsy, it is still early for seed sowing generally...plenty of time yet and seed sown a tad later will always catch up. Having said that I have sown some and they have germinated :)

Busy with other stuff today but I did apply mulch/ compost in temporary poly tunnel.

@Upsydaisy It's some Coleus and Euphorbia Oblongata I've had growing in trays for quite some time. I think my Rudbeckia need pricking out too. But I have got a new LED lamp I've got on for 3 hrs a day so that has helped move things on rapidly.

Have only managed to pick up some of the pebbles/stones from around the old pond today...it will be filled in soon. Checked on greenhouse but not done anything. I am just so tired. Dog had a bad tummy all night so I was up every 45mins with her from midnight to 5am....I'm too tired to do anything. zzz
