Thank you Verdun and Upsydaisy :).

My garden is looking very neglected at the moment, although some things are doing okay without me. The Achilleas in the baths have also got brown, dying leaves and in my Herb bath most of the Herbs seem poorly or almost dead. I guess everything is redeemable or replaceable.

Yes, should have looked closer Gary. Ants indeed.
Prob your compost was dry there.
You can use ant spray but I find water helps too.:)

My Dad had a very droopy looking huge Fuchsia in a pot that I decided to empty out to see what was going on...never seen sooooo many ants eggs!!!
Washed all the roots and refilled the pot with fresh compost, perked up almost immediately.

The birds enjoy their surprise picnic too :dbgrtmb:

Not done much gardening so far today, but I have washed the patio after a big BBQ over the weekend, watered some of the pots against the side of the house, tied in the butternut squash (I’m growing it on a tripod for the first time this year) and picked a few french beans and mangetout peas.

Off to have a well-earned cuppa next to the pond, before taking Izzy for a walk.

Back now and hope to spend some time in the garden.:)

Any of you make mistakes with your planting positions? I planted kniphofia Tawney King where I thought it would look soooo good:noidea: what was I thinking? It is swamped by a group of tithonia Torch and an almost 6’ salvia Amistad....and still growing! :noidea: It’s flower spikes are almost hidden by the tithonia so a wasted plant for this year:noidea:
Won’t move it now but I like it a lot ....think I have the ideal spot for it though:)

Lawn mowing later, watering, dead heading, fruit, tomato and veg picking to do. Boy, it’s hot though:SUNsmile: I could so easily be tempted by a dip in the sea.........hmmmm!!! Barrel jellyfish spotted locally though.....harmless but huge!

Whilst out and about this morning I bought a sprinkler. Now the weather has cooled slightly and rain is forecast for Friday!! :noidea: Could be a very wet day and it would be welcome
On the other hand very hot weather is coming our way after the weekend:SUNsmile::)

It’s always the way. Saying that we had wet weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow earlier this week and each day it’s changed. Now it looks like only a wee chance of a shower tonight.
More forecast for Friday but I’m not holding my breath.

Just look what I managed to find in Tong Garden Centre @Verdun it's been elusive the whole holiday and I managed to capture the devil on the last day.

It was time to cut the stems off some of the lychnis coronaria as they have slowed right down flowering. Got in and did some of the aqualegia stems as well, whilst I was there.

Removed lots of sheep’s sorrel from the new bed extension, along with as many of the connecting “filaments” as I could get hold of.

Weeded around all the fruit trees and fruit bushes, so they don’t have to struggle with any competition in this drought.

Then had to get indoors, as it was getting hot out there!
