Take roof netting off fruit cage and generally straighten up and tighten up everything.

So sorry to hear your news, @Mike Allen :grphg:

This morning, for some mad reason, I decided it was time to battle the brambles on the steep slope below the patio bed.
Step 1 - cut a path through the long grass on the slope, so you can see where it is safe/not safe to stand
Step 2 - pile cut grass to one side, ready to remove to compost heap
Step 3 - cut bramble whips as low to the ground as possible/pull out rooting whips, and form another pile, ready for bundling and collection.
Repeat 1 - 3 for an hour, until you reach the corkscrew hazel
Step 4 - free poor plant from brambles, and resist urge to stand back to admire!
Step 5 - repeat 1 - 3 to reach roses at back of patio bed, and repeat step 4
Step 6 - battle on to get under young walnut tree, and raise banking with cut turfs from drive bed extension - a much better and more needed use for them than stacking to make loam!

....and rest, and enjoy your coffee and homemade shortbread!

I've edged all the main lawns and moved pots of annuals around to make a better display on the patio for the members of the gardening club that are arriving soon.

Shall mow down the back later - if I have the energy :noidea:

Finished removing the hazel, dug out the stump and was surprised how easy it came out, all the rest is cut up into small pieces and put into the brown bin ready for removal. 20200919_155504.jpg

Potted up 5 fuchsia cuttings that i rooted in water. Soon I'll be watering the polyanthus and wallflowers.

Potted on some very rootbound houseplants, even though I don't want to encourage them to grow now when the light levels are going down. But needs must, these guys were screaming for some root space.

Organised and tidied up the various cuttings and potted them on.

I must stop propagating! But it's just too satisfying to take a peek at the roots and to see new growth. In today's unsettling situation it's a relief to see, touch and smell new growth in a pot of compost. Everything's gonna be alright. :)

My neighbour's garden is a wilderness and very overgrown. I've been clearing scrub along a 30ft length that has grown through into my garden on the boundary. This is in preparation for a new bed that I'll start creating there - probably next Spring.

I haven't really thought that far ahead yet @ARMANDII, :) although my intention is to start with some tall shrubs for what may be future privacy. I have a feeling my elderly neighbour may have to move on in the next few years and to be honest his cottage is past it's best and the whole plot (which is large) may well be sold for redevelopment and therefore cleared. There won't be a multiple build on it as that wouldn't get through planning for this particular area.

Any suggestions are always welcome of course. :) I'll take some pictures of the area and explain the shape of the intended bed.

I didn't get around to mowing the tougher areas as it got too hot :phew: - but did sell seven chilli plants (two went for eating and the others as houseplants/patio plants.

I may get around to mowing the wild area (all seeds have now set and dropped) before it gets too hot. It depends on whether anyone drops in to socialise. I know someone is coming round at 9.30 - just got an email about it whilst typing this post. :noidea:

Day off today, off to a plant sale; first and probably only one of the year. It will be good to see some different plants and may (certainly will) buy some.
