What do you mean pretty old ... my Boo (Magic Sam) was 20 when I had to say goodbye. :cry3: Funnily, I have a pink tee shirt on today with a black cat hanging from the pocket ...

Gorgeous Tango @pete - I'm waiting for a delivery from that place in Madeira... I'm impressed it has flowered so soon. BanksiaEricifoliaSm.jpg
Here is my Banksia ericifolia which is currently flowering.

Thats great, I always assumed Banksias were pretty large before they flowered, so not really bothered with them.
Having said that I vaguely remember seeing some flowering outside the Temperate house at Kew some years ago.

@pete I bought a couple of Brom pups 10 years ago from him via ebay I think he used a different name on there. I still keep the Billbergia pyramidalis var going.
@CarolineL that Banksia is superb, outside or in? I saw some like that last year in Perth Botanical Gardens in Oz.

Hi @strongylodon, @pete it lives in the unheated section of the greenhouse, although just after I moved here, it spent the winter of 2018/19 outside until I got the greenhouse. It's about 5 foot tall in its pot, and does seem to produce multiple flowers that don't form properly.
Kings Park in Perth? A lovely place! I had been planning to go back this autumn and also go on a plant expedition up north but Covid got in the way...

Well, looking at these fantastic pictures and realise how late my garden is this year! I've had the usual yellow stuff...I don't care for yellow...the only thing that has advanced apace are the gastropods:wallbanging:

@CarolineL Were you hoping to bring plants back from your (now cancelled I suppose) expedition. I know you aren't allowed to bring anything plant wise out of Australia unofficially which is why I only bought a packet of mixed nectar plant seeds in Sydney.

One of the many Banksias in Perth. I guess you have seen them there before.

Hi @strongylodon no, I was just going on a photo expedition - I took loads of photos last time even though I hardly got very far north from Perth. You can see some of the photos I took here cslangensiepen’s albums | Flickr
I brought back seeds last time though they don't actually allow many packets per person.

+1! How about hyacinths, scillas, bergenia, iris reticulata, botanical tulips, anemone de caen , cerinthe major, hellebores and saxifrage? That would give you a bit of pink and blue

@CarolineL When you said a plant expedition I thought you meant plant collecting!
I have some small Kunzea, Hakea and two Melaleucas, virens and squamea, none hardy here but I don't know whether there will be enough room in the greenhouse particularly in winter if they grow.

@strongylodon it's impossible to import even cultivated plants now - and in Oz they have some wonderful hybrids of grevillea, melaleuca etc sold as tubestock for a few dollars each!
