They may well grow in full sun in Scotland ... but They sure would suffer in full sun here in Algarve. Although I wish I could, I cannot entertain Rhodoss, Azaleas, Camellias, etc. Besides having a hot sun, it is a dry heat. I lived in South Carolina in a town nicknamed Flower Town and it heaved with these beauties. It often was near 100F but it was also near 100% humidity.

Horses for courses, comes to mind.
And growing plants is not an exact science, as we all know.

There is always someone out there breaking the rules and getting away with it.

IME Monty's devotees are often far more rigid-minded about horticulture than the man himself is and have misunderstood/simplified what the guy said in the first place!

I grow large amounts of the same Artemisia which always sells like hot cakes in my charity sale. I think it’s correct name is Artemisa Oriental Limelight/ aka Artemisa thug! It is a seriously good doer and I do warn people that it spreads but at the same time it keeps it’s amazing vibrant colour way into the autumn and can lighten up the dreariest of areas. At one time I grew it as an informal hedge as it grows up to about 4 ft here.

@hailbopp Basic question, but does it have the typical wormwood scent when crushed?

@roders your garden is lovely, I love the rockery.

@shiney there must be a nest somewhere nearby as today I saw a female blackbird taking nesting materials from around our little pond and then come back for a bath!
Such a lovely time of year for watching wildlife.

A few years ago one of my sons & his wife gave me a purple 'Calla Lily' for my birthday. Every year since I've managed to get t to flower again. Last year it outdid itself but the pot seemed very crowded. I thought to myself next year before it starts into growth again I will have to see if I can divide it.

This year when I noticed it was waking up again I took it out of the cupboard, where it spends the winters, & emptied it out of its pot to divide what I assumed would be tubers, rather like small Dahlias, but I was surprised to see that actually they are more like Crocus corms, just a bit bigger! :heehee:
