At last a half decent crop of outdoor melons, just beginning to ripen/rot.

@pete your calycanthus looks a lot redder than mine did. I found the plant a bit underwhelming - lots of leaf and small flowers. Your garden looks great!

Thanks Caroline, the part along the back is mine also it runs along the backs of four other gardens.
The Calycanthus is occidentalis, just the species, collected in 1985 in Yosemite.
Yes a lot of leaf especially this year as I did a hatchet job on it last winter and its grown like crazy.

That bit with all the mature looking shrubs? Lovely! I bet you have a load of interesting things there.
As for the calycanthus - something you collected is always special!

@ARMANDII I don't know how old your Katsura is but if it performs like ours you will need to keep it pruned well. It reached about 20ft high in ten years and the upper half tends to branch out like mad making it look a bit top heavy. The upper branches seem to spread outwards about 4ft every year. So we are always needing to prune it hard back. It's worth it for its Spring and Autumn colours. :blue thumb:

Hi Selena, we don't really have a specific thread entitled "Good Gardens" either for the gardens of GC members or for National Trust or private estate gardens. As you can see we do have "What's Looking Good" for each month of the year where you may get a taste of GC members gardens, or there is the "What did you do in the Garden today" thread where members will post pictures every now and then of their gardens. So, depending on your definition of "Good Gardens" i.e: GC members gardens or gardens which the Public can visit there might be something in the aforementioned threads.
