A grey drab Winter's Day in Algarve. Just some pictures of the Viburnum in almost full bloom. ...

Due to our unusual cold snap, we have lost lots of greenery but it will recoup quickly.

I went out in the garden to take some photos and the sun ran away! Most of my shots were out of focus so deleted them

My Strelitzia nicolai (Black/White Bird of Paradise).

          BoP Nicolai 22 Ja 20.jpg

Sadly we have decided to part ways with Nicolai as he is getting too big and needs to be in the ground. We have asked our friend John (who lives on 58 acres) if he would like it. We will then put our Musa Dwarf 'Cavandish' in the giant pot.

@CarolineL yes, the fuchsia is in the greenhouse and starts blooming this time every year.

                  Don't think it's hepatica :noidea: I think it's anemone blanda :)

It's interesting as you often post pictures of plants in advance of mine. That Anemone is quite sheltered (doesn't get much sun at this time of year :noidea:) as it's under an ancient lilac tree and sheltered by a very large Heather. I haven't checked to see how the Anemones the other side of the Heather are doing.

@shiney My anemones are mainly on a slight east facing slope and normally hit their stride end of Feb, early March I was quite surprised to see leafs fairly well on last weekend. Like you I have snowdrops in various stages of opening the furthest on are probably just about the most shaded, but are sheltered from cold winds by the house. Elsewhere some hellebores are in full flower others have just got flower buds at ground level. Overall the fairly cold weather since Christmas has slowed a lot of things right down and an early morning of freezing fog the other weekend scorched a lot of growth on plants that the warm autumn had encouraged to keep growing.

@NigelJ Our snowdrops are all different types (haven't the faintest idea what they are) and flower at different times. The first ones to flower are always the taller varieties and those in flower now are about 9" tall.

We're coming up for having been here for 50 years and I can state quite categorically that I don't remember what varieties most of the thousands of plants are. :dunno: I don't know how long we have had a lot of them but I know that our big willow was bought from the W.I. in 1953 for 1/6d.
