Plumeria survive just frost-free, but they take a while to get going in Spring :)

I was surprised that they are not readily avilible in Portugal, I know they are basically tropical.

        Hollyhock Chaters Double.
Flowering early, bought as small plug-plants in Spring this year.
        Meant to flower next year

No, but I don't see much where I live remotely in the orchards with lots of oranges, lemons and such like. Things like Shrimp plant (Justicia brandegeana) happily grow in full sun here.

I can't think of anything comparable to see if I have a photo.

Hopefully going to the Garden Center on Monday (different one than I went to the other week) to get Felicias so I could look/ask.

Could they be compared with the Jatrophas which happily grow here?

Yeah possibly, only reason I mention it was because my relations who live in Sydney was saying they had planted one.
I think the climates might be similar.

But do you find you have to keep them pretty dry and dormant?

Yes, don't water often in the winter ... but that is when we have our rain. Guess that might be the same in Oz.

I think they get rain at all seasons, but in recent years they have been basking in 45-48C in the summer for a while.

I actually quoted the wrong post there, it should have been aimed at @noisette47 , but quoted you instead:rolleyespink:.

Confused? You will be... But, yes, I keep the Plumeria dryish, like Bougainvillea and citrus. Bitter experience has taught me to ease up on the watering, even in Spring when the temperatures are changeable.

Absolutely! :-). While we're on the subject, before it turns too cold, he could do with a drop of ericaceous fertiliser or Sequestrene. Looking a bit chlorotic....Miracle-Gro ericaceous feed is excellent ;-)

Oh, thanks for that, noisette, I've got some on the shelf in the Garage unused as I don't have many ericaceous plants.
