With the unexpected rain over night, the garden looked even more autumnal.

If you are wondering why the Lilac tree and Tree fern are protected with bricks: That bloody fox is digging all over the gardens (neighbour told me her garden looks like a mole labyrinth)

The Tree fern has developed 17 fronds this year. Each of the leaves is 1 metre long!

I had moved the primula to the bed by the crap apple tree and they are happy.

And another example of taxonomists having a laugh . I think of them having a pub session on Friday. "so what mouthful shall we change a simple name to? I know - aster can become symphiotrichum."

@CarolineL I agree with you about the horrible names, the remaining Asters are Eurasian species.
As to where they get the horrible names from I really don't know.
I'd have happily stuck with Asters just as most nurseries have done. Which is another problem the taxonomists change the names and apart from botanists the majority of gardeners just ignore them.

Michaelmas daisies were part of my childhood, then when I started growing my own garden the nurseries called them Asters.
