hi we have got a gardman metal bird table in our garden , we also have concrete slabs under slabs there is rolled chalk , i put the bird stand inside a tennis post holder and used gorilla glue to stick the post holder to decking , this morning i see the bird table on its side all though been ok untill now, how can i fix this to the decking without drilling the base of the post holder and bolting it down . thanks for your advice .

Which gorilla glue did you use? They make different kinds.

Anyway, I dont think its really a long-term option to glue is to the post holder down

Four holes and some wood screws.

Many thanks for your reply the glue I used says it will stick any thing. The decking is 29 mil thick I don't think screws will hold it in place as I can't bolt it that's why I used the glue

Screws will hold it better than glue, just get some 40x5 wood screws, round heads if you can get them, drill the base in the four corners with a 6mm drill, and screw it down.

Hang on, why are you mentioning slabs and rolled chalk?

If you just wanted to fix the post holder the glue would probably fine. However the bird feeder is quite tall and every time it moves a lot of leverage is transferred to the base of the post.
As Pete said screws will hold it fine, so long as the decking is in good condition.

Thanks for your reply. When we moved here there was nothing in the back garden apart from concrete slabs. Our neighbour said that these property's where build on wetlands and under the slabs there is rolled chalk.
So what we have done is to fake grass down so it looks nice then we went to try and do something with the garden including raised beds made out of sleepers. Decking. Area for bird table. Garden pond. Etc.
The decking is new through out with the screws are they 40mil x 5 mil if so won't they go through 29 mil decking to concrete slab?

Yeah, I got that impression, you have just laid the decking directly onto the slabs??

So go for 30mm screws. they will still hold it ok, just use a small pilot hole if you think it is necessary, a spot grease on the end of the screw always helps them go in.

The decking is on the fake grass which is on slabs / rolled chalk

The decking is not fixed as such but what we have done is to put 2x2 wood on top of decking to hold it down. The decking is only fixed around seating area but not about bird table

Have you thought about using one of those cast iron outdoor umbrella bases? I use that for my feeder during the winter and on my back deck. And it makes it easy to move mine it around when necessary too. It's not like you're going to be walking under the feeder and will trip on the base. ;)

SikaFlex EBT+ Adhesive, should do it. The adhesive is very strong, fills gaps and has some flexibility. Although a tall bird table will develop some leverage on the joint it is not ideal. If possible I would try and drill through the base and attach with stainless steel coach bolts + washers. The Sikaflex is available in several colours including brown.

Thanks for the reply we don't want to use a umbrella stand for our bird stand as we used one on a garden parasol and in windy weather it was being pushed over all the time
With regards to coach bolts I would find it hard to drill and to go into concrete slabs and rolled chalk due to health problems but thankyou for your idea
