@Sheal - is the carb on the left side of the engine? Could just be that it has a very shallow float bowl on the carb and is a design quirk; the carbs have reduced in size quite a bit in the name of improving efficiency and emissions, but that in turn means that they can't hold as much fuel.

Then I suspect the float in the carburetor is sticking when the mower is at a given angle, or there is a bit of dirt in the carb causing the same problem

@Fat Controller at least on mine, the carb is on the right side of the engine. Added to that, the carb is on newer engines is what is known as a concentric design. That is to say, the jet is in the exact centre of the float bowl. This type allows a greatr tolerance to angles than many others.

@Sheal Two questions that I would ask. Does your mower have a primer bulb that is used to cold start it? Second, when the fault happens is the carb on the lower or higher side of the engine?

@weedaway please excuse me hijacking your thread, if you would like me to start a new thread please say. :)

The mower is not yet three years old and has had this problem from new. The links below show the mower and engine. Looking at the mower from the front the primer bulb (as an easy spot) is on the right side.

I have an Al-ko self-propelled petrol lawn mower. The backyard is almost an acre big.

What Fat controller is correct regarding some of the briggs engines, plastic carburetor ? bowl to small effectively runs out of fuel on leaning on one side. they is nothing you can do.

I agree. The only thing I've found that makes any difference is to wash the air filter, but that only lasts a couple of mowing's then it's back to as it was.
