Better day today - got quite a bit done, although still haven't got as far as I was hoping by this stage.

The disaster yesterday involved me tripping over either the dog or the vacuum cleaner cable (not sure, as they were both there), and ended with 2.5L of Dulux Satinwood meeting with a champagne coloured carpet

Copious amounts of white spirit, water-based degreaser and a whole load of work for the Vax and we appear to have reversed the damage - thank goodness! But, that was a good few hours that were not spent decorating, let alone the damage to my nerves.

Got the metallic emulsion on the feature wall in Little C's room today - actually works really well (I was highly sceptical), and gives a metallic finish that shimmers but isn't in your face. Has to be applied carefully, but then the same is true of any paint really.

We're at that stage where we are wandering around muttering about how dingy and grimy the place was now that the new paint is going on - this is the bit that I don't like really, as it makes you feel that you have been a dirty blighter when in fact it is just normal fading of the paint.

That makes me feel a bit better about switching on a wee electric rad this evening. Had the wind blowing through the place all day to get rid of paint fumes, but around six-ish it got quite breezy and chilly.

 

See above - probably about as bad as it could get!

I can't type here what I said at the time either - firstly because this is a family forum, and secondly I would end up wearing out the F key on my lappy

 

You either heard the swearing, or smelt the white spirit fumes...............

Incidentally, Vax cleaners are really, really good, and there can be no doubt that ours saved my bacon yesterday - but they don't cope too well with a mixture of paint, white spirit, degreaser and warm water - - - one hell of a load of fumes/vapour was given off by ours for a while yesterday. Thank goodness we have loads of doors and windows to open, as it was like smoke at one stage - - I could have woken up dead this morning

Thanks, Woo . I've got the Bouncability Factor this morning. even if it is with a little limp.

Don't forget that you only have today and tomorrow to buy a vacuum cleaner with power of 1600W or more. Those interfering EU bureaucrats are back to making stupid laws and are looking at restricting other household appliances such as hairdryers and even lawnmowers!

The overnight rain will clear by 7 a.m. and we'll all be out there sunbathing by 10 a.m. . Although it must be well over 50 years since I last sunbathed

I'll be off, later today, to take lots of bags of garden waste (our wheelie bins are full) to the green waste lorry in the village. They come to the village every week between April and November
