            Aloha everyone,

Yesterday was mainly admin work, some arm aching gardening and some shopping - followed by a trip to the Indian restaurant.

@Upsydaisy in the picture at the top of the page (the lunch meal) the hand stretching across the table looks a bit like a plastic arm and hand to me :rolleyespink: :heehee:

I hope to get a lot done out there today.

            Take care

            Aloha!

Good morning everyone, wherever you may be!

Yes it does look a bit manaquiny @shiney . :heehee:

Shiney can I beg a favour off you please....well Mrs S really, can you share with me her instructions for getting Cleome to germinate. I sowed 2 pkts earlier this year ...and did better that the last couple of years I must admit.......my one and only flower is just blooming now!!!

I'm just setting up next year's seed sowing diary and hoping I can add Mrs S's advice. Also I read an article from some in London that just let's hers go to seed and self sow.....have you had any self sowers ??
Any help gratefully excepted as I do love this flower.....and I hate to been beaten too;).

Have a lovely day everyone .:spinning:

@Upsydaisy firstly, yes we have had them from our own seed but they don't seem quite as good as the bought ones.

She sows them in March and doesn't cover the seeds but just sprinkles them on the surface of the compost. She says that they need fluctuating temperatures so sowing early and put in the greenhouse works well.

She told me to Google it and I came up with this:-

                Trouble Germinating Cleome Seeds?.

                  Thanks Mr &_Mrs S.

I did try putting them in the fridge for 2 weeks on my 2nd attempt and as I said...I now have one plant.
I know they require a drop in temp at night and have had trouble moving them around in the hope of achieving this.....but obviously not.

Is your greenhouse heated?, ours isn't. Perhaps I sow too early:scratch:. I tend to sow in February as they state sow early to ensure a drop in temps.

I might also let my one and only run to seed and see what ( if anything) happens.:blue thumb:

I will follow Mrs S's advice next year,:dbgrtmb:

Thank you both for your help.:)

I think the fridge is a bit excessive :heehee:

A cold greenhouse is fine as even in March the temperature rises quite a bit when the sun is out. We don't mollycoddle our plants :roflol:

                      Ok thanks again @shiney .

I just followed the instructions on a gardening blog....have to say it did result in our one plant this year.
I always grew them before but for some strange reason the last 4 years have proven difficult to get them to germinate.....and I haven't done any different.:noidea:
