I went to a Catholic Convent @Ergates. Some of the nuns were Irish but they didn't encourage anything as fun as Irish dancing. I hated it. I was the youngest in the class and got teased and left out. The teaching wasn't very good either though Biology, English and French were OK. I only got French O level because of a lovely, lively French teacher from Paris who arrived 2 years before O Levels.

Very interesting to see where you're all from. My DNA showed I'm 98% North Walian with the remainder from Northern France. It was then amended to 96% and included Cornwall. I am very solidly Welsh, though I'm not a good Welsh speaker, as I grew up on the Wirral and Mum said Welsh wasn't 'necessary', though all of them were Welsh speakers.

We had a huge fright last night; our den is above the garage, so we retire there 8ish. Maisie (age 16) was on her way up when she missed her footing and fell back and through the gap in the banister, landing on her back on the floor. I was beside myself. After checking her over and with no evidence of anything broken, we helped her up and she cuddled beside me on the sofa. She seems none the worse this morning, so we think the librela has really helped her. She's eaten breakfast and had a little run out. We will be keeping a close eye on her, but we're due to go away tomorrow for 2 nights. Maybe not.

Morning all, pleased to see that the sun is appearing as the forecast was for cloud all day.
Despite that, apparently we're generating so I've put the washing on and hopefully will get a 2nd load done as well.

Didn't sleep very well so feel a bit tired, think I overdone it yesterday clearing out the loft again.
I think the constant, sometimes agonising, decisions whether to keep or chuck stuff is probably draining. Found my daughter's box of childhood toys, including a Furby (remember those),
tiny Wade china animals, two 50 year old large dolls (minus their knickers!) and some handmade Wombles. Most of the stuff is going to the charity shop or Ebay.

Goodness, @Penny_Forthem, do hope Maisie is ok this morning, that could have been so serious. Can you temporarily tie/loop some rope or similar across the banisters for extra security? It would be a shame if you couldn't get away as the forecast is for really warm weather on Thursday I believe. Hoping to have more or less finished the loft by then and have time/warmth for gardening.

My DNA is mostly English with about 16% of Norway/Denmark so I'm surmising Viking ancestors! One of my paternal great grandmothers came from Northumberland so might very possibly be the connection. One can only dream.

I'd better get on and confront the mess upstairs. Enjoy your day everyone.

No sun here today, and it feels colder out than the thermometer says.
I seem to have spent quite a long time getting the bins and recycling out. Being extra careful not to miss any waste bins, as I forgot to put the bin out last time, so it’s six weeks since it was emptied! Despite that, the bin wasn’t completely full, probably because we are strict with ourselves on making sure that everything that can, goes into the recycling, which gets picked up weekly.
Feel quite worn out now, it’s a long way down the drive to the roadside, and a climb back up. Time for a coffee and a small snack. Half an avocado on seeded toast with marmite, trying to be healthy! I’ve been making an effort over the last few weeks to shift the weight I put on over Christmas. Lost four pounds and back to 1st December weight. Very pleased about that.
Poor Maisie, what a fright for you all, I do hope she recovers well.

            Definitely worth a watch...

No Irish in my ancestry as far as I know. Mostly solidly English, with French (Huguenot, like @Busy-Lizzie ) on my paternal grandmother's side.

            Best wishes to Maisie!

Back to scrubbing algae off the back of the shed, before giving it a coat of preservative. It's been neglected for a few years because the growhouse was attached to it, so it's time it was spruced up a bit.

So sorry to hear about your fright with Maisie @Penny_Forthem. I can imagine that your heart was in your mouth. Poor old girl - that's Maisie, not you. I hope you have given her lots of TLC bless her.

Well done @Ergates on the will power and the weight loss. Who needs a gym when you can trundle your bins up and down your drive?

Quick update; Miss Maisie has had a touch of the Irish shamrock luck and appears unaffected by her fall. She's eaten a hearty tea (complete with her customary sardine!) and had a good mooch around the garden.
Based on the fact that we'll be less than an hour away from the kennels, we will go away. She'll be with our other dogs, in a kennels with underfloor heating and comfy beds.

So pleased to read that @Penny_Forthem. I suppose she is used to having a little holiday with her 'friends' so it won't be too stressful for her.

Sorry about my previous post being in triplicate... :noidea:

I've finished scrubbing the algae off the shed. Hopefully it'll be dry tomorrow so I can get the preservative on it. The old plastic growhouse, demolished by the last storm, was attached to it with wire and vine eyes, replacing the feeble tent pegs and cord supplied by B&Q. The new growhouse, which was going to be bigger, is in fact an exact replacement... I decided that since I'm now over 27, it would be unrealistic to expect I would now start growing lots of tomatoes etc in a polytunnel, and securing it against our strong winds would be difficult. The difference in price bought some plant supports and bamboo canes, which will be useful.

                            Evening everyone. Another Monday done.

Big day in the calendar today… first garden waste collection goes out! :hapfeet:
Zero enthusiasm was shared when I mentioned that in work today. That’s what happens when you work with people who are 30 years old and have other pursuits to think about! They are either parents to young kids (so no time for gardening) or out and about socialising (same result but also not interested). They’ll understand one day.

                            Have a lovely evening all.

Good morning all. Last kick of the winter here, but it's a harsh one. Wind is howling, 1℃, but it was lower during the night because there is ice in my pond. Tomorrow should be better, and next week, according to forecast, almost summer temperatures. Bonkers isn't it?
On the bright side, after school I'll go to groceries shopping and will pop in the GC. Now is time for my tea, them must prepare warmer clothes, and start a day. Have a nice day and see you all later.

Good morning @Ante1 and all dropping in later. I've woken up to a slight frost this morning but I was expecting it because it was Baltic here last night and similar to your forecast @Ante1, it is due to get warmer later in the week. I can't wait really . @Liriodendron, I just want to thank you for the smile your triple decker posting brought to my face yesterday so you have no need to say sorry! Well done on all the hard work you carried out yesterday and fingers crossed you get the preservative painted on today. Now for tea and toast.
