Evening all, you've all been busy today. Disappointing weather again, mostly cloudy with occasional drizzle. OH went off early to look at some wheels/tyres for his car and I walked to get the paper. After coffee and some naughty chocolate, I got the pruners out and walked back down to the Community Orchard to prune back some overgrown hazel branches. I want to ask the maintenance man who mows the green bits if he'll regularly mow the stretch adjacent to a narrow bit of pathway in order to keep the very tall nettles/hogweed down as they flop all over the path. There's plenty more big stands of nettles elsewhere in the Orchard so it shouldn't be a problem.

Whilst I was in pruning mood, I also did the hydrangeas and the going over winter flowering honeysuckle.

Had lunch then my son arrived a bit early - he had texted me to tell me but I didn't actually get that text until 3 hours later! Don't know why that sometimes happens with my phone but it is infuriating. I showed him where I want to put the shade sail and his advice was invaluable, he's already got one so knew how it should be done. Apparently I now need some fixings.

Furniture moving is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

@Busy-Lizzie, how's your grandson finding uni in London?
I am super envious of 'Le grand frais'.
Duck a l'orange (no accents on this pc!) with baked baby pots and shallots, with psb and peas here tonight.
I am not a chocolate cake lover (tho' OH is!) so Devil's food cake has passed me by.
We disposed of the spiny thug prunings in the green waste in the quarry by the camp site. We have permission! It's been dry all day, so we have made the most of it.

I bought that fish @Ladybird4. We don't eat much red meat, we eat mostly fish and chicken and lots of veg.

@Penny_Forthem my grandson is enjoying his course and finding it interesting. He also likes taking trips into London to sight see in his free time. However, he isn't keen on his 3 Indian flatmates. He can't understand their English and they leave the kitchen in a dreadful mess. Whenever he wants to wash something in the sink it's full of dirty saucepans.

A good job done there @Penny_Forthem! My spiky rose bits have gone into my bin but I still have a lot to remove yet. That kitchen nightmare is a shame for your grandson at Uni @Busy-Lizzie.
We had a big roll of thunder a few minutes ago and shortly after Cricket came in a bit wet so I'm guessing it is drizzling outside. I don't mind it raining at night.

                Good evening!

I'm very behind with posting on here. I got the back of the shed painted with preservative on Tuesday as planned, but felt a sore throat coming on, and by Wednesday I had my husband's heavy cold... so that put paid to much in the way of activity for a few days, including the Bach concert on Friday. OH was sufficiently recovered to sing, but I was still coughing fit to bust. Very disappointing.

However, I've now managed to erect & install the replacement "blow-away" growhouse. It turns out not to be quite the same size as the one it replaced, so I had to extend the "foundations" to accommodate a slightly longer base. It's attached to the back of the shed with vine eyes and wire, with lumps of rock weighing down the bottom, so hopefully it's not going anywhere... and this afternoon I sowed lots of seeds. I'll do the ones needing extra heat in a day or two.

It's good to read about all your gardening exploits! And I had a laugh reading about your grandson, @Busy-Lizzie - though I'm sure at the time it wasn't a laughing matter for you...

Hello everyone. A rainy start to the day here but I have plenty I can do in the greenhouse. Pleased to read you have got your new one put up now @Liriodendron and you'll be all set to go! I was sorry to hear of you coming down with a cold though and missing the performance. I hope you are over the worst of the cold now.
Tea/coffee morning at Church to day. Any cake left I'll be taking across the road to Jack later to have a catch up with him. Whatever you have got planned for today, I hope you have a super day.

                      Good morning @Ladybird4
Enjoy your time in the greenhouse. This is the time of year that I could really do with one. The shed, the garage and the garden room (a lean-to attached to the rear of the garage, which could do with tidying) are just not the same.
Maybe I'll follow @Liriodendron and get myself a "blow away" grow house. :)

Good morning everyone, got back yesterday, drove through a bit of rain on the way but it was dry here. Less than 10 mins afterwards we had a thunderstorm. TBH we need more rain, it's been very dry. We still need to water all the pots.
Have a good rest of the weekend everyone.

                          Good morning all,
Rather dull and grey here this morning. We’ve had rain and I think more is due, so I’m unlikely to get out into the garden today. I’ve got plenty of indoor things to get on with though.
No green house here, just a mini one which has seen better days. No room for a proper one.

I’m feeling a bit like our weather today - grey, foggy and unmotivated
OH has decided to carry on with painting the dining room so I feel I ought to find something to do. I might do a bit more de-bobbling and I do have some admin to do…ho hum…….

It’s too wet for gardening and I need to dig out some garden soil and leaf mould before I can do any seed sowing so that will have to wait too.

Once I get going I’ll probably be ok. I just seem to have lost my starter motor cord at the moment

I find it fascinating how the weather can have such an influence or exaggerate how I feel on any given day

Hope everyone has as relaxing or busy a day as they wish. Hope you are recovering well @Liriodendron

Right, off to get a cup of coffee as hopefully a first step into (slow motion) action :coffee:

We had a lot of much needed rain overnight, but it's dry, but dull, now. Hopefully, when OH gets back from his bushcraft course, we can get on with clearing the patio.
I love my greenhouse! There was an 8 x 8 one when we moved here 25 years ago, so that's the size I'm stuck with. Plenty big enough for us, really.
I have received my horseradish thongs from D T Brown and am soaking them, as per recommendation. They will be planted into large pots, so they don't turn into unruly thugs!
I hope that the weather is kind for you all and that you can enjoy whatever today has in store.

                                Morning everybody,

We got all the furniture re-arranging done, a lot easier after all my worrying and my son has now left to meet a friend before the rugby match. He was a great help in moving the sofa and bed together with OH as I couldn't have managed it. The Clic-Clac sofa bed is now in the small bedroom awaiting a listing on Ebay and the single bed is now up in our loft conversion. All I have to do now is put loads of 'stuff' back in its place! As it doesn't look like gardening weather, that's probably my job for today. I'm feeling a bit like you @Butterfly6, unmotivated today.

That's such a shame that you missed singing in the concert @Liriodendron, hope the cold is easing now.

My glass greenhouse is a smallish one too about 4ft high backed onto the side of the porch with glass sliding doors. It has 4 shelves which are foldable down if necessary but I find them a nuisance sometimes as they are constructed with round aluminium struts with gaps in between where smaller pots sometimes fall through. I do use trays on top but ought to construct some kind of webbing or metal perforated top covers to stop that happening. Anybody else have the same problem?

I think most students experience that kind of mess and thoughtlessness in kitchens @Busy-Lizzie, I know it infuriated my two when they were at Uni.
