Good morning. Bright and sunny again but still that cold breeze. OH was out at 6:30 to get to a match near Nantes so I was on chook and polytunnel opening duty. Everything I potted up yesterday is looking good and I already have baby sunflowers I sowed on Saturday so I'm very pleased. More chillie to sow thi morning now I've found the seeds.

Our weather forecast has changed overnight and we're now expecting rain from Saturday on but not as heavy thru the following week. We'll see.

Sorry about the delay @Penny_Forthem and I hope it is just a few hours.

Good luck with prepping for your potatoes and onions @Ante1.

Hope your day goes well @Tui34 and all to come.

Sounds like you are down in my neck of the woods, @lizzie27. Have you been to Budleigh this visit? And of course, I’d usually recommend a visit to the Donkey Sanctuary, but it is school holidays and sunny, so best avoided at the moment. We live near enough to arrive when it opens at 9 am, which is where we are now! There are only a handful of other people here including the regulars, but by mid morning, it will be packed. Most people stay near the visitor centre, so the lovely walks round the rest of the site are usually empty.
So sorry for the delay, @Penny_Forthem , especially if you have had to starve. Hopefully they will let you have water until nearer the time for the op. Soon be on the mend.
I am planning to garden today, but OH is now banned from doing any work. Raked up twigs on the lawn yesterday and then very stupidly got the heavy blower out to shift some leaves. Came in complaining of straining his back, thankfully it’s eased up overnight, but he doesn’t learn and has to be kept an eye on!
Yesterday, I planted out an azalea and also moved some primroses. Hoping to get them spreading further round the garden. I still haven’t started pricking out the seedlings, I suspect they are still far too small so I must be patient. What I could do is start thinning them out, but I’m too soft hearted for that! Every little leaf should have its chance!

Good afternoon everyone. First of all may I just say to @Penny_Forthem that I was sorry to read of yet another delay for your operation and possibly as I write this it might be all over and done with. Chin up Chuck, we're all rooting for you. It was decidedly nippy here first thing this morning and, like you, @Obelix-Vendée we have a wet forecast for next week. Hopefully my water butts will get filled again. Ooh @Ergates, another kindred spirit here. I have to give every seedling a chance which is why I end up supplying relatives and friends with young plants. My Mum used to go mad with me because I had to 'rescue' plants I spotted gagging for water in supermarkets. I couldn't bear to see all that potential joy flagging. I remember once asking why the plants were allowed to die through lack of water and was told that health and safety didn't want the possibility of someone slipping in a water puddle and injuring themself.

The talk at the Gardening Club this morning was very interesting, about a woman botanist sailing around the world collecting plants with her male companion. Women weren't allowed on ships in those days so she dressed as a man. Jeanne Baret - Wikipedia

We didn't stay for lunch as we still have things to do in the garden before we go to Norfolk on Monday.

I trimmed the edges of the flower beds and finished weeding the vegetable garden.

            I hope @Penny_Forthem is OK.

Good morning all. No nanny duty for me this morning so I need to get some garden time. Green bin has been emptied so I need to refill it and then things will finally look better in the garden. Work later hope everyone is off enjoying the sunshine and leaves us in peace.

                              Good morning to you all!!

I expect Penny @Penny_Forthem is up and about this morning and on the road to recovery.

A very sad affair yesterday. The funeral of my 90 year old father-in-law, who was the last of his siblings to go. Some nice speeches from the grandchildren. I was pleased that my choice of gospel; John Chapter 15: "I am the vine. You are the branches ........" was liked by the family who are not religious, for this vigneron. There was a simple celebration, no mass.

Today is grey but the morning was like this yesterday and the sun came out around 10am (thank you for sending some @Ladybird4) , so more of the same today, please!!

Good luck @Ante1 for your plantings of potatoes and onions. Yes, a big job. How do you cope with the weeds?

A busy day today. My friend is coming from Montpellier tonight, so I have chosen to make a leek and blue cheese tart with tartare of salmon and salad. A couple of glasses of white to wash it down. I will be tired as I tossed and turned last night. Couldn't get to sleep despite ploughing through multiple chapters of Richard Osman's "We Solve Murders". Will try and rest this afternoon.

Morning @Ladybird4, @Tui34 and anybody else logging in.

I'm sorry for your loss @Tui34 but glad the ceremony went well, although naturally a sad event.
It's good you've got your friend's visit to look forward to. Dinner sounds good.

We got back home yesterday afternoon after a good but slow, drive up from Devon. Stopped off at Lytes Cary Manor, just off the A303 for coffee and cake. A beautiful old manor house surrounded by some lovely gardens, including orchards just beginning to bloom and underplanted with white Pheasants Eye daffs and purple camassias, just about opening in the sunshine - magical. I can't grow camassias here as it's too dry and sunny and apparently they do spread widely if they're happy.

I sympathise @Ladybird4, I too, tossed and turned, coughed and coughed and in the end got up, had a cuppa and then bunked down in the spare room, propped up with pillows. Not a very comfortable way of sleeping. OH is having a lie in and is still asleep. Either that or he's waiting for me to bring him breakfast in bed!

Hope @Penny_Forthem is doing well and being allowed home today.
