Good afternoon everyone. I had an interesting morning shortly after my first post today. I heard this loud squeaking and Cricket was in 'red alert' mode poking about under my hall table. Eventually I spotted the owner of the loud squeak - a young rat. Cricket was treating it with caution as it was quite feisty and he is not used to critters that fight back. I had to think on my feet about what to do. Young ratty - about the size of a mug - was a little traumatised and did not dash away when I got near, so I got a tea towel out of the kitchen and on my second attempt managed to swaddle ratty and pick him/her up. I took my little package to the bottom of my garden and released ratty into the field. Cricket was still convinced it was under the hall table - twonk! It has been grim all day here which is such a shame after last week so it was mainly indoor jobs after checking on the GH watering.
Glad Nanny duties went well @Debs64. How very annoying about the dog walker @Penny_Forthem. It would take no time to send you a text of explanation. Of course I had that experience with my original boiler man until I decided just to contact someone else. I felt sorry for my Bestie who had recommended him to me. His loss!
It has been very windy here @lizzie27 and @Ergates, so much so that one of my big tubs of daffs in the front garden got blown over. No major damage done thank goodness.

I think it was very brave of you to pick up a rat @Ladybird4, it could have bitten you.

There has been a chilly wind here today, too.

Luckily @Busy-Lizzie the towel was thick enough to prevent any bites.

Hello there one and all. Red sky this morning - uh oh! My garden is plagued by celandines but by summer they have all disappeared. They are resistant to most herbicides too.
Food Bank duties this morning and being pre Easter I expect it will be non stop.

Good morning all. We have bright sunshine here but I am working all day so won’t really see it. Today will be difficult it’s a bad day every year. Lots of panic as people realise we are closed for two days Easter seems to catch them unawares every time. We have one of my favourite pharmacists working with us and are planning to have hot cross buns so fingers crossed there won’t be tears before bedtime.
Have a good day at the food bank @Ladybird4 i hope people are grateful

I have to confess that I like lesser celadines. They are so cheerful and then politely leave to let everything else get on with it. I’ve not noticed them bullying out other plants - hopefully not an example of famous last words ….

Not sure what we are doing today. The weather looks lovely at the moment so might do a garden visit. We only had a few spits and spots of rain yesterday despite the forecast for all day but hoping it’s now stays dry so everyone can enjoy the Easter bank holidays.

I agree Penny Forthem. It takes weeks, and sometimes months for our systems to recover from surgery. Rest, sleep and gentle exercise is the answer. I had my right ankle replaced a second time and that was a very long recovery time, no driving for 5 months etc.
I think my system must be well down, I forgot to say I also had an abccess which required my having a tooth removed, it would cost £2,000 to have an implant, I am living with a gap which feels big enough to drive a bus through at present, I keep biting the side of my tongue or cheek, really sore.
I made a ginger and orange cake yesterday, sadly, my taste buds have not recovered from Covid so I can only taste sweet, sour or salty, otherwise it is like eating newspaper. I am now plucking up the energy to mop the floor all the way through the downstairs, ready for my visitors. Not that they will notice I am sure, but I will know.
I caught the new neighbour's cat in my house yesterday, swearing at my cat as it made its way to the kitchen. I feel beleagured in my own home, not able to leave doors or windows open.
Poppy is too old to fight with it, her eyes were on stalks when I realised what was going on. I feel sorry for the wretched animal on one level, it is living in a tiny house with 2 spaniels so is probably trying to find somewhere quiet to sleep, it lost its companion cat just before moving here a couple of months ago so, plus 2 house moves, it went to stay with someone while the new nieghbour sorted out where she was going to live, is probably feeling wretched, its owner is at work all day every day. But I do not want it on my patch threatening my cat.

It is a shame about the lanterns, they would have looked lovely going off over the sea. Why are they allowed to be sold?
A couple of days ago I dug out my sewing machine, first time I have used it for years, and shortened some Asda Sale lightwight summer trousers. After pinning them I decided they looked like pantomime dames pantaloons! Sorted now, just a couple of finishing off touches and I am happy with them.

Morning all, some grim times for us, I sympathise. I am still living in silence in one ear, although I’m off to see the Doc again on Saturday afternoon. ( yup, Saturday). Distorted hearing in other ear makes for interesting times.
OH and I have decided that, as we’re not venturing out anywhere over Easter weekend, it’s a good time to start painting. Hallway, stairs and landing, here we come. My OH has to “ walk the plank” to get to the top ceiling on stairwell. I’m dreading the knock on effect this will have :ouch1::oops:

Morning everyone, volunteer day at Capel Manor yesterday. Hadn't been for a couple of weeks, wow what a transformation a few days of sun and a bit of rain makes. Very busy with visitors, the students are off of course so just as well really.
Last early start for us as it's GD'S last day at Chase Farm . She seems to have enjoyed it.
Well you can have all my lesser Celandine. We "imported " it in some bagged mulch a few years ago. Never had it before would be happy to get rid.

Out for breakfast, a quick walk, and then the supermarket on the way home. Family arriving later today, home made burgers and chips on the menu. Bringing their dog, who will stay with us for the next week or so. Spent yesterday tidying up, only the ‘public’ areas, but it still took all day! However I did sort and file / throw out, an accumulation of non urgent paperwork that has been sitting in front of me for weeks. OH has taken over a whole room for his hobbies, electronic thingys etc, but had still managed to set up shop on the dining table plus a nearby desktop. Thankfully everything has been taken away, probably only temporarily. I must be more strict about that, but I know I won’t! I’m a sad case! I have put up non see through film on the bottom half of the French windows so the dog can’t see the squirrels! They will come up to the glass and look in, resulting in frenzied barking.

Poor @Goldenlily26, you really have had a bad time recently. Hopefully you can ‘retrain’ your bite, and the incidences of biting your tongue will reduce?
I wonder if the intruder cat is making a bid to move in with you? We were adopted by a cat many years ago. It just walked in one day and made itself at home, despite us having two dogs and our own cat. We didn’t actually realise it was there for a few hours as it was identical to our existing cat! The previous owner did track it down after a few weeks, and asked if we would be happy to keep it. It was living with two big dogs and they didn’t really get on. It was very happy and settled in with our lot.

Seems like a grand day out there.
Bryn's dog walker is collecting him in her 'doggy bus' later, for an hour and a half run in an enclosed field with other dogs. The 2 older girls are happy in the garden.
I must try and do some repotting of tomatoes this afternoon, as I think it'll be warm enough in the greenhouse.
The main road into N Wales is already heaving. I hope those going camping will have a dry weekend.

Went for a walk this morning. I passed the house that has two eagles on gateposts. Previously they've been adorned with scarves (winter), and sun-hats (summer).

                              Now it's Easter.

Off today and forecast was dry, so washing out… but looks like there might be a rain shower soon so I’ll be doing a dash to the line.

I’m working for 2 out of the 4 days of Easter ‘weekend’ but I have an Alpaca relaxation outing booked for Saturday so hoping it will be dry (50:50).

Have a good day everyone - may the Easter ‘holiday’ be the start of good gardening, good luck and good times.
