Good afternoon one and all. Had a great time with Bestie just sitting in her garden while it was so sunny. Definitely changed since then though as, like at your's @Blue arbour, it has clouded over here too. I am with you regarding St. George's Day. It is always 23rd April! Never mind this shifting it all about because of the occurrence of Easter.
When I went to check on my baby plants in the GH after I got home I was pleased to see that another of my dahlias grown from tubers is just peeking through. The seed grown dahlias are looking nice and healthy too.

@Goldenlily26 I am sure that all of your culinary work will be greeted with utmost pleasure and satisfaction and whatever you manage to get in the way of distraction and entertainment for the small person will be greatly appreciated too.

Signing out for today. Wishing you all a decent night's sleep. Hope this not the kiss of death but I haven't coughed for 3 days. First few days I have been cough free since December 10th!

Been a busy and enjoyable day.
Had friends for coffee this morning; one brought a shepherd's pie for tonight, the other a small carrot cake. i gave them sweet peas i've grown for them, plus sundry seedlings.
potted on seedlings this afternoon and sat and read my kindle.
          It has been glorious.

Just what the doctor ordered @Penny_Forthem !

You have been so busy @Goldenlily26, hope the family appreciate all your hard work doing all that cooking. Cooking for nine fills me with horror. Hope you take it easy afterwards.

After a rather chilly and overcast start, the day turned quite nice and sunny mid afternoon and I was able to get a few gardening jobs done as well as the ironing earlier.

I agree with you @Ladybird4, it was definitely St Georges Day yesterday. Never hear before about moving it or any others close to Easter, wherever did that come from?

              Its finally Friday.jpg
A very good morning to you all. A lovely start to the day here. I will be going out to Canasta later but need some time in the garden first.
@Liriodendron, I agree about apple trees being named after their original breeders/growers as the one my friend and his colleagues have definitely looks as if its named specifically after a gentleman. Think about Granny Smith as an example. I do love the ones that are named from a description of their markings or appearance. They have apples called Pig Nose and Pig's Snout because of their resemblance to those features.

                Good morning to you all!!

Sunny today with a high of 24°C but rain is forecast tomorrow. Great growing weather!!

Today being the 25th April marks ANZAC Day - in recognition of the battles at Gallipoli during the First World War. I am sure many of you have seen the film about the brave nurses that worked at the lines. Terrible war. Terrible loss of very young lives. Poppy Day in the southern hemisphere.

@Goldenlily26 It was just a suggestion if you were looking around a charity shop for toys end games. Card games such as Snap and Fish are good for capable 4 year olds. Your cooking sounds lovely. I like gammon too. We can get it here in France. I hope you have a lovely day.

Glad your cough is clearing up @Ladybird4 My hay fever seems to be a bit better but I am keeping the eye drops up!!

                Have a pleasant day everyone.

Our quiz team came third out of five teams. I was pleased we didn't come last.

There were a couple of unexpected rounds - World War One, Scotland, and Ships.
Music was classical and crooners. There was also a local history round - the quiz WAS organised by the local heritage trust.

My memory was terrible. I'm not much help on films, music, or sport. Actually, my memory is terrible, full stop!!

                        Good morning all.

I've seen that film @Tui34. It was very moving.

We had a good visit to Holkham Hall yesterday. It's very grand. The walled garden is 20 minutes walk from the house. When we got to the garden I realised we had been there before, but by a different entrance and a disabled car park as Cedric was waiting for his hip replacement. They lent him an electric buggy. We didn't visit the house that time as Cedric wasn't mobile enough.

Unfortunately, 17 yr old grandson isn't well, sore throat. He spent some time trying to sleep in the car.

We are going to Sheringham today. They want to see the sea and walk in the park, full of rhododendrons. Gaby wanted to go to East Ruston Old Vicarage garden and I'd thought about Pensthorpe Wildlife Park, but the grandsons aren't keen as, having seen the walled garden at Holkham they say there won't be much out.

I’ve only been to east Ruston in August @Busy-Lizzie but I would expect then to have very colourful displays of tulips.

Had a quiet week, mix of work and pottering. Feeling a little down although not sure why, maybe flat would be a better description. Anyway it will pass as it usually does and we have a beautiful sunny morning to help things along.

I need to get on and clip my box hedges. Have spotted another emerging generation of box moth caterpillars :noidea: Inevitable of course but I think I was secretly hoping for a miracle. Am very reluctant to spray again even though it worked. I felt so uncomfortable doing so, it goes against all my principles. Especially as it has sunk in that this will be an ongoing battle all summer and every year. Have decided to use the one treatment I have left and then that’s it. Am in early mourning for my box knot. By autumn, am hoping that will have transformed into excitement at the new planting opportunity.

Well done @Goldenlily26 on getting all your preparations done. I hope you have a lovely weekend with your visitors, sharing memories of yours sister and comforting each other

Hope everyone else has a good weekend, I can’t believe it’s Friday already

                              Morning.
It's not as sunny as yesterday, but I don't mind, as I have more 'stuff' to do in the greenhouse.
I did think I wouldn't sow any runners or courgettes this year, but I have changed my mind! Also got Turks turban, which I have never grown before.
Hope your weekend goes smoothly @Goldenlily26
A feast for the eyes there, @Busy-Lizzie; never likely to go there in person.
Tesco will arrive soon. One sub which they can keep!

Stunning pictures @Busy-Lizzie - they brought back happy memories. I've had several happy holidays in Sheringham and enjoyed Cley-next-the-Sea where there is a fabulous windmill. I also remember walking with my Mum along the beach to go and see the seal colony. Happy days! I do remember each village having the most beautiful sign posts. Those were the days when we used to enjoy going to a super eatery called The Harnser and learning that this was the Norfolk dialect word for a heron. Cromer was another favourite place to visit - great fish and chips there!
