So sorry to read about the baby bird @Songbird. Its always sad when that sort of thing happens but glad you OH has sorted out the opening.
Rough news from your insurance company @lizzie27. My bin day is a Thursday too and my green bins were emptied last week. Already filling up!

No gardening for me today as this morning was spent doing lots of patch admin for the end of season and preparing elections for the committee in September. After that, shower and a trip to Nantes to see a specialist. Very impressed with the efficiency and kindness of all concerned. Everything is joined up - admin staff, consultants, anaesthetists, GPs, computer system that keeps track of me and their records up to date. Everything confirmed by email and text message by the time I got home. Brilliant.

Home via a raid on IKEA for some lemony tea lights and a bottle of elderflower syrup and then, in La Roche, the Vietnamese shop for old Jamaica ginger beer, lime pickle and rice wine and some veggies for a stri fry with salt and pepper squid this evening.

Lots of watering since dinner; some sprinkler and some with the can and water butts as so much is thirsty.

Birds here are very unlikely to feed from our hands but some do now come to the feeders while we're sat, quietly, on the terrace. Most remain wary of hoomans despite having been born and had their own weans since we moved here and set up feeding stations and water bowls for them year round.

Glad you got home safely @Busy-Lizzie. I too like driving but do need some good driving music for long motorway stretches.

Have a lovely evening and a good night's sleep everyone.

Hello everyone. Its looking good for today. Hoping to get some more work done in the garden but need to be aware that my postie is due to pick up a parcel from me between 11:56 and 14:56 and I do not want to miss him. Pleased all went well for you yesterday @Obelix-Vendée. It does sound a mighty efficient service. I hope that @Goldenlily26 gets some satisfaction from her GP today.

Good morning all. No change here at the moment. My daughter spoke to my surgery and despite my asking for a call yesterday, I have to ask for one today. Both the Dr. and my daughter tried calling me but only had the engaged signal. Time for a new phone? I hadn't used the phone all day but my daughter was able to phone me early evening. Very strange, and frustrating. I hope the electrician can get through today with his delivery time for my new TV.
I have just put out a small wash on the dryer, it is supposed to be dry all day. I had to do it in 3 parts. If it rains it can stay out!

My daughter had quite a pleasant visit with her father on her way up North. Unfortunately his carers called her saying he had slipped down in his chair when they had arrived and they are not allowed to lift clients. They had called 111 and were staying with him until someone came to lift him. No idea how long it would take. There was nothing my daughter could do, she was on the motorway heading North. I heard on the radio recently someone had waited 11 hours for paramedics to arrive. Frightening.

Whey! Phone working! The electrician will be here in the next hour.

              Good morning all.

We are going to the Norfolk Show today. We love it, full of animals, flowers, show jumping, food, crafts etc. We had planned to go tomorrow but a friend's wife has died and it's her funeral tomorrow.

It's a 'getting better' sort of morning, at least weatherwise.
Not sure that it applies to news.
However, as both are beyond my control, I'll just have to make the best of it.
Going to take some things up to the van, do a bit of shopping, repot some plants and keep busy.
The show sounds great @Busy-Lizzie. Used to love the Cheshire show.
Hope you have your new TV up and running now @Goldenlily26

We are stuck in a huge queue for the Royal Norfolk Show. OH read somewhere that the queue would be earlier so we didn't leave until 10am.

Good very hot afternoon to you all!

But I am inside with the aircon on and have discovered my knitting!! Too hot to wear anything knitted - sleeveless or not - so it will be good for autumn. I must persevere.

I like driving too @Busy-Lizzie and like you, keep my road adventures to a Sunday. The drive from here to Switzerland I know by heart, and love to see the change of scenery and colours. Different light from one end to the other. Hope you are well out of that queue and enjoying the afternoon at the Show.

No open stagnating water recommended for us - i.e. flowerpot saucers, watering cans or plastic bowls and buckets containing water. Mosquitoes!!! Pesky monsters!! I have a dog's bowl of water outside that is replenished daily - the birds and bees come there to drink. I have put a pooh stick into it, so that insects don't get stuck!! Bird baths and fishponds unless filled on a daily basis are not recommended. The Tiger Mosquito has arrived down here and they are pretty nasty and carry a disease.

Hooray @Goldenlily26 Hope the electrician sorts things out!! Looked up the recipe for s & p squid on BBC Goodfood @Obelix-Vendée - looks good - I'll try that one of these days with the little supions which I usually like just fried in a parsley/garlic butter. Had to go into deepest darkest Beziers this morning so stopped off at LeClerc on my way back - a trap of a shop - and found some ginger jam. Got that!! Was looking for a crisp white wine called UBY N° 3 which, I was told, was sold there. But sadly not. So I did a useless shop buying a second item at half price or 2 plus 1 free. Get out of these shops!!

End of the day - just as hot - a crazy 35°C but a sea breeze blowing - albeit hot. Be nice at the beach today. Not my scene anymore. The temperature may drop to 25°C tonight but no more so I have to get up and take Fizz out - 6.30am this morning - but well worth the effort!!

I hope everyone has had a pleasant day and is looking forward to an enjoyable quiet evening !!

It's been another scorcher here with no breeze till after 5pm and OH and I have been out to a lunch and dance. Good lunch, nice company but too very hot for dancing so we left early and did a wee raid on the enormous Super U at Talmond St Hilaire.

Possum and I have our last yoga class tomorrow evening followed by a pot luck dinner and on Friday OH has a golf lunch to which he wants to take something for the apéro so I'll be making a double batch of bite size sausage rolls using a mix of minced pork and squished black pudding with apple as well as a coconut chai cake for yoga.

Managed to get my veggie beds watered last night as well as my new bed and the nursery but need to do the rose garden and front island bed this evening as they're gasping. We had a dribble around dawn but no more in sight now and 35C expected again this weekend which will be fun for garden visiting on Sunday.

@Tui34 I have standing water for the chooks, insects, garden birds and dunking pots but the little bowls do get refreshed every day. Our water butts are covered so no unwanted guests there.

So sorry about your friend @Busy-Lizzie and I hope the show was good today.

Hope everyone's OK and your gardens too.

Evening. Another busy work day - had lunch at 5pm! Very humid and warm in work so my feet were lightly poached by the end. Shower, tea, toast and feet up now.

I hope everyone has enjoyed the day and can relax this evening.

                            Morning folks.

Hope you enjoy the Norfolk Show @Busy-Lizzie, sounds good fun. Sorry to hear about your friend's wife.

Glad the specialist consultation went ok @Obelix-Vendée , hope it's not something serious.
Good luck with all the paperwork.

No gardening today for me either, as I'm meeting a friend for coffee later this morning. I put some washing on earlier which I'm hoping to dry on the line if it doesn't rain. Might be able to shift more soil later in the afternoon.

Hope you're able to talk to the GP today @Goldenlily26, strange goings on with the phone.
It's ridiculous your ex's carers are not allowed to lift him up in a chair, health and safety gone mad.

That's quite a long wait for a delivery @Ladybird4, very frustrating for you when you want to garden.

I think I've just heard the washing machine burble that it's finished so better get on.

Oops, looks like I forgot to hit the Post button!

Evening all. @lizzie27, I had the same idea as you this afternoon once it dried up a bit and I did a washing load. All nicely dry when I brought it in. Postie finally arrived as I was just starting to feel a bit twitchy so I was happy that parcel is now on its way. Time to say good night and I'll see you in the morning.

Hello there everyone. More lovely rain this morning. I'm doing something slightly different today. I am taking some 'stuff' to one of those one day only Vintage and Collectables Roadshows. Never been to one before but when the brochure dropped through the door last weekend I decided to hunt out some items and go.The wife of my quiz partner - an ex colleague - is coming too. It could be interesting. I'll let you know later.
