Seems I forgot to post here this morning.

I hope the spider didn't spoil your enjoyment of the wine @lizzie27!

Nothing very interesting to report. We went to the SM and the small GC this morning and I bought 3 Laurentias to fill a gap were daffodils were, 6 red zonal pelargoniums for the front and a pink Veronica for a gap in the long border. I planted them and did some weeding this afternoon.

Good morning. I've been up for an hour or more already after two pussies decided to play. One, I can ignore. Chooks let out and given their breakfast, birds fed and watered, sprinkler on in the rose garden cos I ran out of time before bed last night and we're limited to watering between 8pm and 8 am.

Set to get to 35C today so any more gardening will be done in the next couple of hours before I retreat to shade.

I hope everyone's had a good sleep and that you enjoy your day whether working, playing, busy or relaxing.

Good morning everyone. A very late start for me this morning - had a shocker of a night and the alarm clock aka Cricket, didn't work! Not to worry, cuppa and breakfast by my side and all set for whatever the day throws at me.

          Good morning all.

I'm sorry you had such a bad night, @Ladybird4. Doesn't seem a late start to me though! We are having coffee in bed.

Seems a very early start for @Obelix-Vendée, but the she's an hour ahead in France. I'm glad we are in Norfolk now, France is too hot. My area isn't yet on water restrictions and there were thunderstorms recently.

We are going to the monthly market in the village hall. Then there is a church tea party this afternoon. We are going with a couple of friends.

Yes @Busy-Lizzie it is early for me as I usually read in bed and doze before getting up. Not happening this morning.

OH is going to help me make a planting hole for a eucalyptus that is suddenly struggling in its big pot. Probably root bound but we'll find out when I turf it out. Grown from RHS seed and I have a spare if needs be.

Enjoy market and tea party. I'm going to make a large lemon drizzle cake to share at the garden group outing tomorrow.

Goodness me @Obelix-Vendée and @Busy-Lizzie but the temperatures in France look formidable. My sis and BIL are heading there next week to spend three weeks at their caravan in La-Londe-les-Maures. I hope that your garden will be fine @Busy-Lizzie.

I'm cake baking today @Obelix-Vendée as my brother and I have been invited by our oldest nephew and his wife for Sunday lunch so I decided I would make a cake for them - probably an all in one Victoria sandwich.

Thank you Ladybird 27 for the Myrtle info. I am going to delve into sourcing a variegated one for myself. I was going to contact you to ask where you bought yours from. I had a lovely email from my supplier yesterday offering support in case of any future problems. How nice was that.

Oh, I am blessed. My daughter and son-in-law arrived yesterday afternoon offering to plant out my remaining veg. It was wonderful to step into the conservatory this morning and not be faced with boxes of baleful faced young plants asking to be outside in the fresh air and open ground.
Unbelievably, after all the warnings re the forth coming heat wave, it is mizzling steadily, overcast and no searing hot wind to scorch my newly planted babies!
I haven't been down the garden to check their handiwork yet. When I went out and tried to do a couple of small jobs I was chased indoors to sit down and stop interfering with what they were doing! My daughter so reminds me of myself and my Mum!

On the way to me, my daughter dropped my repeat prescription in at the surgery and asked if my X-ray results were in.
Yes. Everything is satisfactory. Nothing to worry about.
                  Back to square one.
Is the pain in my imagination? Now what do I do? I discussed the situation with my daughter and I am going to start doing a couple of yoga stretches each day for the next 3/4 days to see if they help. I can only guess I must have torn or strained something getting the sacks and bags of grit, sand and compost out of the car and down into the garden.

I hope everyone stays safe and cool in the heat. It is a bit scary as we are not used to such high temperatures and we have the British mentality, just carry on regardless. We have got out of the habit of wearing sun hats, covering up and staying in the shade. Having grown up in a guest house environment and witnessed how ill, heat exhausation, sun stroke and sun burn can make people I am perhaps ultra cautious.

Best to be cautious @Goldenlily26. I am in now for the next few hours having watered treasures, soaked the planting hole for my eucalyptus now that OH has scalped a square of dead grass and hoed my new bed, earning myself a blister on my palm as dry soil is hard work to hoe.

OH has slapped on the factor 50 and is carrrying on tidying up rubbish and strimming long grass and weeds before the lunchtime noise curfew. I am going to catalogue plant labels and seed packets to remind myself what's in the new bed.

I suspect you've pulled a muscle or three so gentle stretches will help relax them and sort you out.

                      Hello everyone,

Glad the test results came back ok @Goldenlily26. Try Burncoose Nursery for the variegated myrtle, I think it's down your way? They have an online website too. Your daughter and SIL are very kind to help you out with your veg, especially if they have busy jobs as well.

It's very humid today, had a bit of drizzle earlier whilst walking to the papershop but it soon stopped. Feels like we may have a thunderstorm later perhaps.

Have we any chemists amongst us? I have found a very old (30 years?) of Hydrogen Peroxide at the back of a cupboard that I want to dispose of but am scared to open it in case it explodes? Can anybody advise please. It's too much of a faff to take it to the Council tip.

Not sure what I'll do today, thinking of getting the lump hammer out of the shed and hitting the hell out of the stone trough! (very carefully of course with goggles etc).

Your day sounds nice @Busy-Lizzie. Are you able to keep an eye on your French home/area or is it only your Norfolk place which has cameras?

                      Good to have a lie-in occasionally @Ladybird4.

Afternoon all. First of all @lizzie 27 the hydrogen peroxide will be harmless - it won't explode - and can be safely poured down the sink - flush through with plenty of water.
What a lovely surprise for you @Goldenlily26 all you will have to do now is water all your 'babies'. Great news about your X-Ray results too, and I agree with @Obelix-Vendée, after all you did do a lot of lifting and shifting.

Thank you so much for that reassurance, I'll do what you suggested. Can't even remember what I bought it for in the first place!

I soon gave up on the lump hammer/chisel work on the trough. Harder work than I had envisaged so will leave it to the builders with a Kangol hammer.

Retreated inside which was cooler for lunch and read the paper. Then I switched on the telly in hopeful anticipation of ETTC (I am addicted to that programme), forgot it was Saturday and just missed it! Boo hoo. I was really good though and did some shredding of old tax papers dating back to 1999, as well as old credit card statements. We have a mountain of paperwork to shred, OH doesn't like getting rid of anything and I'm nearly as bad. It then got too hot up in the loft so I'm just having another rest downstairs (curtains drawn) with a cuppa and contemplating a very naughty mint Magnum.

Hope you're all surviving the heat, feel very sorry for those who have to work.

                            Good afternoon to you all.

Another early start this morning with Fizz. Woke at 6 and was out by 6.20am. It was already 23°C but a wee breeze was with us. My friend is here from Montpellier this weekend, so we did a trip to the tip before having breakfast (strike while the iron is hot!). Just as well he is here as Montpellier is the hottest city this weekend with 38°C (usually it's Grenoble) and it is 37°C here even at this time of day 6.30pm. Fizz is in - she thinks she is prisoner - and the aircon is on at 25°C. Nothing to do except sip lemony water and watch a series on the TV or read. I have done Wordle and Worldle etc. I think it would even be too hot to be at the beach in this weather!!

Yes @Busy-Lizzie - you are better off further north of France!! I hope you feel better soon @Goldenlily26 How kind of your daughter and son-in-law to do some gardening for you. Good idea from @Obelix-Vendée to do some gentle stretching. Wine is good for lots of things @lizzie27 Especially vicious 8-legged beasties!!!

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone and I hope the French contingent get some sleep tonight. I haven't seen @floralies for a while and I expect @Ante is very busy with end of year tests and serious gardening!

Can you have a follow up with a physio, @Goldenlily26? Reassuring that nothing seriously wrong according to the X-ray. The exercises I was recommended involved standing facing a table with your hands on it for balance. Then lifting one leg to the side, but not high enough to crease your shirt at the waist! ( physio was a nice young man wearing a shirt, but you will hopefully get the idea!) Do that a few times, then gently lifting the leg backwards, again not too far. You should feel the tension in the buttock muscles. Then do the same with the other leg. I have to say that the pain in my hip and inside my thigh bone has completely resolved. Of course, I’ve now got another set of aches and pains elsewhere, but was very relieved that I wasn’t in need of a hip replacement.

Yesterday was useless. We went out in the morning, and had a walk in a local garden overlooking the sea. Some really lovely flowerbeds. OH observed that these were what he was hoping we (meaning me!) could achieve at home. Managed to restrain my eye rolling. I suppose we could do something similar on a small scale by spending a fortune at a garden centre, and spending most evenings outside with a torch fending off the slugs.
When we got home, I did a small lunch, then went to bed for a nap. I didn’t actually bother getting up again. I felt really exhausted, went back to sleep, and only got up briefly to get a snack and a drink. Back to normal today, a long walk, and have managed to stave off the post lunch drowsiness.
Had a scare refilling the bird bath. I always leave the watering cans upside down to avoid anything drowning in them. Filled the can, and went to pour it into the bird bath. Nothing came out so I gave it a shake in case there were leaves in it. That sorted it out, but no sign of any leaves. I looked into the empty can, to find a large toad looking back at me! Seemed no worse for his surprise dunking, so I released him into the cool undergrowth out of harms way. Thinking about it, maybe I should have kept it somewhere safe until this evening, and introduced it to our slug population!
