Wow that is impressive @Obelix-Vendée. As you said earlier, how on earth did they get that up the tree? I don't think things landing on the roof would be my prime worry!
When I was out in the garden this morning @Busy-Lizzie I noticed both my large water butts were filled to capacity.
I missed that item @Penny_Forthem so thanks for posting the link. Now why do I get the feeling I need a sausage butty?
Hope you manage to get a chiropodist appointment @Goldenlily26 and I was pleased to read that the nausea has cleared.

So much for pottering in the garden. OH decided to get the mower out so I've had to stay indoors waiting for DHL to deliver his old passport. His new one came while we were out the other day so tomorrow he has to go north of La Roche to their depot to fetch it. Suits me as he can drop me off at that fabric shop so I can look around for bits I need and, on the way, we can drop off stuff at the community recycling shop. They refurbish electrical goods so I hope they can get a 2nd life for our old TV.

I've been busy making an insect net curtain for the back door as the beaded one has finally given up. Not as easy as you'd think!

We've had some unscheduled rain which stopped his grass cutting for a while but should be safe now to put out the washing.

I too wore high heels and platforms in my youf @Tui34 and into my 50s but learned to stick to 2.5"/6cm heels if i wanted to dance all night. These days, 3cm is my max.

Hope you get your feet sorted out @Goldenlily26 and you're wise to stop the codeine. Nausea is a common side effect, as are tiredness and constipation. It's also an opioid, closely related to morphine, so addictive.

An update for you on my pelargonium order. I have just been to look at my emails amd lo and behold there is one from the courier company to say that they have received the details of my order from the company and as soon as they receive the parcel they'll get it on its way to me. Absolutely nothing from the company I have bought the pelargoniums from. I will not be recommending them to anyone. I assume that I just keep the three pelargoniums that were not part of my order?

I didn’t water the garden plants last night, as we were supposed to get rain at 2am. Bone dry this morning, and after a breezy start, the sun has come out. OH has cut some more grass, and I pulled up brambles. The green bins are virtually full. Also got some laundry done, so I may have earned some relaxation this afternoon.
I may have to put the medium weight duvet back on the bed. I changed to the ultra lightweight one when the heatwave was at its height, but it’s now feeling a bit cold at night. Might explain the weird dreams and disturbed sleep.

I was wondering the same @Ergates, but as we're now predicted another heatwave over the weekend won't bother. I woke up at 5 am and just flung my dressing gown over me.

I made a special effort yesterday whilst I had the oven on for the Sunday roast and made a blackberry and apple crumble for OH to take over to friend this morning. The husband is unfortunately having end of life care so I thought his wife might appreciate not having to bake.
OH left it here! I'm so cross!

Off to get my new 'ears'. Hope the volume isn't too loud.

It’s been a lovely summer’s day. Took Dad for a haircut and then I did some gardening plus tennis watching.

Will have the last of my home-grown Charlotte potatoes with chicken and salad soon. There’s MIL’s Welsh Cakes for later too.

I hope everyone is ok. Sounds like mixed fortunes on the rain front between us all.

How are your ‘new ears’ @lizzie27?

Enjoy the evening folks - quizzing, relaxing, entertaining, gardening or otherwise.

More potatoes next year @AuntyRach ? We're having some of our volunteer crop this evening. Love a home grown, freshly dug potato.

We had more unscheduled rain this pm. Not a lot but better than none. I carried on with the fly curtain project and now have two. The one for the back door wasn't heavy enough so I replaced washers in the hem with 5 cent pieces. Much better. We've had a plague of the darn things this last week so I hope they work.

Hope your friend is OK @lizzie27 and that the new ears are satisfactory.

The potatoes were fantastic, so yes I will do again next year @Obelix-Vendée - in fact I’ll do an early and a main crop now I know what to do.

Just keeping an eye out for any hedgehog activity at dusk as I spotted one the other night and think it’s nest (?) is behind my big Acer in a pile of sticks and hedge clippings I left at the end of last year.

                      Sleep well all.

Thanks folks, the steam is still coming out of my ears, I've just had a rant on the Moaning thread!
Left hand one fits, right one doesn't, most uncomfortable and think I've probably got somebody else's by mistake, sigh, please don't make me see the same awful chap again.

However, in the grand scheme of things I shouldn't moan and should count my blessings.
Our friend is now very frail and there is talk of moving him to hospice care soon. OH was quite upset when he got home as he's known him for over 40 years. He's younger than us which makes it worse somehow.

I've frozen the left behind crumble and we'll take it over maybe next week when we get back.

I just read your rant @lizzie27. I hope you don't have to wait another 14 months to change your uncomfortable hearing aid.

I spent nearly 2 hours in the garden this afternoon pruning the choisya, dead heading and generally clearing up.

Hello everyone. An interesting night last night. We were the first to arrive at the venue and we were greeted by two very pleasant bar staff who told us that they would be closing at 21:00. We explained about the Quiz League and how we were due for a match in the pub, starting at 20:30. The barmaid went to ring her boss and came back to say that there was no booking for the evening. Hmmm, puzzling. My friend attempted to get in touch with our Captain but of course he would have been driving so couldn't respond. Eventually he and our other team member arrived and there was a big confab before he discovered an email - which he had overlooked - informing him that the team had moved venues! Luckily the other pub wasn't too far away and we were only minimally late. We were beaten but it was still a fun night. Paddington Bear stares were directed at our Captain!
Sorry to read about your friend @lizzie27. I know how very difficult making that inevitable decision can be. I too hope you can get your new 'ears' sorted out soon.

                              Good morning all.

I hope your friend isn't in pain, @lizzie27.

Another couple of friends are coming to dinner tonight so I'll be preparing food this afternoon. Changing the bed linen this morning. The washing machine has nearly finished the towels.

OH has been pruning the big bay tree. He's cut off a large branch which dripped on the summerhouse when it rained.

                                Good afternoon to you all!!

The land is dry and there are many wildfires in the area. 10 hectares went up yesterday afternoon and evening burning an equestrian centre in its way. All horses were saved and have been rehomed in other equestrian centres. Wonderful how the human generosity still lives on. The Canadairs are flying to and fro overhead as the sea is not far away and there is also a very large basin of water for them to scoop up the water. Arson? Cigarette butts - ? Who knows - the firemen are working at full throttle !! And of course to boot, there is a mighty wind to fan the flames.

I did 2 hours of gardening this morning as it was 17°C when Fizz and I went out - I had to find a hoodie - rather chilly. Came back, had breakfast and did some very satisfying weeding and clipping. Ready for a trip to the tip. It was only 24°C when I came in at 11. Sore back, bung knee but happy head!!

More dinner parties @Busy-Lizzie My my you lead such a busy life. I don't know how you keep the weight off!! That's a story @Ladybird4 I think we've all been in that situation! Sorry to hear about your hearing difficulties @lizzie27 Yes, you may just have to go back and get it sorted. Good on you @Goldenlily26 to stop the codeine. Apparently Tiger Balm rubbed on the temples could help.......or anything containing camphor and eucalyptus.

Feet up for a bit this afternoon - some sorting on the computer and some reading. Enjoy the rest of the day folks.
