Oh no @Tui34 fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. How old is she?
Gentle strokes for her from me.
Have to say my GP's prescription service works a treat (hope that doesn't jinx it!)
Order all 5 meds online at the same time, pick them up 2 days later. Hub's is truly chaotic (different surgery).

Gosh, @Tui34, what a scary shock! I hope Fizz will be OK now.

I've done loads of deadheading, not finished yet, the garden must have been a picture when we weren't there!

We've put out the garden 3 piece suite under the new gazebo on the lower terrace and I washed it. Then I went to get the cushions out of the plastic bags that were in the supposedly waterproof plastic chest and the bags were full of water. I bought the chest in 2022 and it hasn't leaked before. Maybe it was when we had the torrential rain that flooded the utility room and study the time we got back from Norfolk last time. The cushion covers are in the washing machine, not all of them, just the ones in the bottom of the chest.

I was so shocked reading your story about Fizz @Tui34 and I hope that the antibiotics sort her out. It is such a worry when they can't tell you what is wrong. She is worth every Euro!
Sorry to read your tale of woe too @Busy-Lizzie. Thank goodness you were able to get the wet cushions sorted.
I got out into the garden today and after a while I was aware I was being watched. Peering through the greenery was Cutey Cat. He was lying in the border quite relaxed until spotted by Cricket. They then had their usual chase up and down the garden with a bit of friendly rough and tumble. All carried out in complete silence.
I am signing out now. I really hope that there are no more catastrophes with anyone. See you in the morning.

Goodness @Tui34, that is a freaky situation. I hope Fizz responds well to all the treatments. Hugs from me too.

Hope the sofa cushions and covers all respond to a good wash and dry @Busy-Lizzie.

Our two cats have had a flea and tick treatment today as a precuation. They really don't like it and have been distant and wary. Cosmos, the white one, has rolled in grey dust and now has a lovely stain on the back of his neck.

Meanwhile, the Visitor has had his second dose of eye ointment administered by Possum while I held him on my knee. He submitted to a good head, ear and cheek rub and asked for more which is really nice but he is still pretty filthy and very thin and swore when I put him down to give him fresh food. Slowly, slowly catchy stray pussy.

He cost me 69€ this morning @Tui34 but that will go up another 270ish, assuming he is FIV negative and needs the two ops.

It's a lovely evening here with clear skies and a soft breeze. I have the sprinkler on my new bed so we can weed it tomorrow and plant some more goodies. Treated myself to two new alstromerias at the market this morning - one with bronze leaves and bright red, orange and yellow flowers and another with pale, creamy flowers with streaks.

            Have a good sleep everyone.

What a traumatic episode, @Tui34 . Hope Fizz makes a full recovery. I feel so sorry for you discovering her like that. We have son’s 15 year old dog staying with us. She sleeps very soundly and breathes very slowly. Several times, I’ve found myself nearly having a heart attack, watching for her tummy to rise, not obvious under her fur. It’s a horrible feeling, and such a relief when she takes a breath. Would be upsetting and awkward if she makes an exit on our watch.

We don’t usually have too much trouble with our prescriptions. We can order the repeats on line through the GP surgery website, and they are sent straight to the local branch of a well known high street pharmacy chain. A few years ago, I discovered that the pharmacy would text me when the medicines are ready to collect, so I got that set up, and now we just wait for a text before heading into town to collect them. A couple of times, they haven’t had the complete amount in stock, and have given us a IOU slip to come back. Otherwise it’s worked well. Certainly it beats that really irritating occurrence when you arrive at the desk, only to find that they haven’t even started to prepare the prescription.
I’ve got nothing done today. I had high hopes of doing a bit of gardening, but by the time I’d had a much needed sleep in, fed and walked the dog, and loaded the dishwasher, I seemed to be running out of both energy and motivation. I did manage to get two loads of laundry done, but housework, by its repetitive nature, is just so unsatisfying. In a few more days, there will be another couple of loads waiting to be done, and there is already stuff waiting to go into the dishwasher as soon as I unload it. I think I need a holiday!

@Ergates ,, we have that same system here regarding repeat prescriptions. In theory, we have to give everyone six working days to complete this task but our pharmacy and surgery “ knows “ us well and we usually get a text within three days of putting a request in.
Its been very nice weather here this last week.I managed to power wash the whole patio area and a path yesterday, took me ages as it was very dirty. I was a walking soak bucket when I’d finished….thank goodness for showers. Today, with everywhere cleaned up and dried it’s looking quite smart.

Hello there everyone. It seems as though your tiny steps and gentle patience are winning over your Visitor @Obelix-Vendée. Somewhat similar to @Ergates, a friend of mine has her niece's Doberman staying with her - I suspect on a permanent basis. Her niece and partner have moved to Ireland and the laws there mean that Millie, the Doberman, would need to be muzzled every time she went out and the niece was not happy with that idea. I should point out Millie is a big softie but the law is the law. Anyway Millie had to have an operation recently - not quite sure what for - but since then she has gone into a phantom pregnancy and my friend is insisting that Millie be spayed as soon as she has recovered from the earlier operation. It has been a fairly worrying time for my friend but she has made her mind up that Millie will have to go to her proper owners as soon as she is fit.
Whatever you have planned for today I hope it is a happy and fulfilling time. I'll catch up with you later.

I think Drs., are so controlled by their moneytery? limitations these days they are constantly trying to cut corners and are reluctant to refer patients to specialists or for scans etc. because the cost is taken out of the surgery allowance. It must be a nightmare for them but worse for we patients. I know the pharmacies in surgeries are constantly shopping around for the cheapest version of any drugs prescribed by the GPS and they do not carry reserve stocks like they used to.

I hope "feline in the shower" tests clear and has all of his health issues sorted. He is a very lucky puss to find someone to care for him so well, especially if he does have to be put down as I understand FHV is a horrible death for them. Of course, going to an emergency, out of hours clinic doubles the charge as I found out when I took Rob to one on a bank holiday.

Oh Tui 34 how worrying about Fizz. It is awful when an animal is ill, they cannot tell us and we often do not realise until it is critical. My last 48 hrs with Rob were heartbreaking, I had no idea how cruel Cushings Disease could be to a dog. No outward symptoms except a thinning coat, although I knew he was not himself.

My son has commented on what a massive crop of small, hard, green pears there is on a tree in his father's garden. I think it may be a decorative pear we planted centuries ago, not a fruiting pear. A lovely tree to have in the garden if you have room for it.

I am smiling as I listen to next door's new cockerel exercing his vocal cords, it really does need some fine tuning. It sounds as if it is being strangled! It is a black bantam with a white cockade stuck on top of its head, looks quite silly but he is very full of himself. My neigbour has started letting them run free so I hope Mr. Reynard does not bring his family by to practice their hunting skills. He has already had several free lunches and they remember where there are easy pickings. A lot of people think foxes only come out at night but our local one usually swings by around 3.00/4.00pm.

You all sound really busy with visitors, trips etc. Enjoy. Remember to take time out just to "stand and stare" or sit and enjoy.

I am sitting and enjoying a cafetiere of black coffee, with a dog for company. Hub is still asleep - with the other dog curled up beside him! Yesterday was not a good day for him.
I told him I am happy to go home today, but he wants to stay till tomorrow.
He feels this is a 'thin place' and it sooths him.
There's a gathering of vintage vehicles nearby, preceded by a tractor run. Always love seeing them.
                      How's Fizz today @Tui34 ?

Good morning. Dull and grey so far and, other than baking my slow loaf, I've been dozing after a disturbed night. The Visitor was very active for a while at 2am and took ages to settle down. Eating well tho and, after an initial swear, he is calm when getting his eye drops. Gave him a bit of a brushing this morning which he tolerated for a couple of minutes.

@Goldenlily26 The shower room is 4m x 3 and has windows on the east and west side so he has plenty of light and room to move about tho not freedom to leave while he's being treated. I'd already warned our vet I was trying to help a stray cat who would need checking for a microchip and any problems once caught so no need for emergency vets.

Weeding for me this pm and more watering of pots.

I hope Fizz is doing well @Tui34 and that yours are enjoying some good runs and play @Penny_Forthem. I don't understand people not neutering their pets @Ladybird4. There are too many puppies, kittens and abandoned cats and dogs needing good home so not sensible to add more.

Have a restful Sunday everyone, unless you're in search of excitement.

                          Good afternoon to you all!!

The hot weather (for down here) has become very tolerable - sunny with lots of wind but the high temperatures of 3§/38°C have disappeared.

Update on Fizz who is 9 years old @Penny_Forthem Not old but not young. She is very tired and not eating although drinking some. I have tried cheese, peanut butter on bits of crackers, she ate the fat off the barbecued steak last night. A bit of ham this morning but she turns away and says - I'm peckish but I don't feel like anything. Funny, she is very perky when I took her out for a walk yesterday evening and this morning. (No bike run) So that's good. A bit of a wee and a poo - no blood. Worries me that she is not eating and sooo tired. Hopefully, like us with the flu', she may sleep off the infection. Thank you all for your asking about her. I just couldn't lose her yet. Hopefully her mojo will be back soon.

So I am moping about keeping inside in the cool. Watering the garden yesterday evening otherwise just resting.

Interesting to read of your new arrival @Obelix-Vendée Where do these strays come from?

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday everyone.

That's a lovely home @Penny_Forthem. You must have some good memories.

Church this morning followed by church coffee morning. Then relaxation and light salad lunch. Then I did some weeding and harvesting in the veg garden. I've just cooked some beetroot. Think I'll pickle some. They've grown really well. Picked some more runner beans and another cucumber. Done some watering.

Oh wow @Penny_Forthem, what a marvellous house. I bet it costs a fortune to heat that in the Winter! Mind you, if you have the money to buy it you probably don't need to worry about that. You just mothball it for the Winter and go somewhere warm and sunny until the late Spring.
I do agree with what you said about neutering pets @Obelix-Vendée and my friend is annoyed her niece didn't have Millie spayed before she left her in her care.
@Goldenlily26 I really laughed at your wonderful description of the new rooster! One of my friends had a female bantam called Nellie who was a real pet. She used to go into the house and up the stairs and would lay eggs in the waste paper basket in her study. She liked nothing more in the Winter than lying in front of the fire if she got the chance. @Tui34 I hope that Fizz gets back to her perky self soon.
Well done the Lionesses. Not my favourite sport but I'm pleased that they won. Don't talk about the cricket though!
Signing out for today. See you all in the morning.
