Gosh, @Goldenlily26, what a day you had. Such a lot to think about. Sounds like your doctor is a useful one, although I agree that the wording of the summons to the surgery was not a bright idea. Hopefully you can get your medication sorted, well overdue.
I did a bit of gardening yesterday, mainly weeding and some tidying up, in between the occasional light shower. It had rained during the night on Monday, but not much.
Woken today to grey skies, and we’ve just had a decent downpour. More indoor jobs today, although we are getting low on supplies, so might need a trip to the shop. If not, jacket potato and a tin of tuna will do for dinner! Hoping OH will be able to get the skirting boards back in place, they are an awkward shape to have sitting around in the way. Unfortunately, there are a lot of preliminary repairs that need doing, so even what seems like a quick job often turns into a major renovation task.
Another very heavy downpour, very loud on the roof. Great for the garden, and I don’t have to go out! Although I might move a couple of pots out from the shelter of the eaves so they can enjoy the rain.

Good that you've had two downpours already @Ergates, hopefully means that we'll get the same in a few hours time.

Correction, not until my chappie was done the paving!

Good morning from a dry, but cloudy Wales. Rain is forecast and it's decidedly chilly. Better find my waterproof dog walking trousers.
Great pics, @Busy-Lizzie. Like others, we visited the Dordogne in the early 90s and thought it stunning.
I have the hair chair at 12 (a chance to catch up on all the village goss!)
The people we met at Saturday's party contacted us yesterday; the adoption of 'their' springer has fallen through, as the foster home is taking him on permanently. She was very upset and has asked me to help her look for another.
Your doc sounds very caring @Goldenlily26 - the old fashioned type.

My new fridge freezer has arrived, except it's a freezer.

OH, who is now in negative Brownie points, just said "well, that's quit a big communication problem". Cloth ears doesn't begin to cover it.

I would just like to say thank you for mentioning the "living will" @Goldenlily26 .

To the best of my knowledge I haven't heard of that before, but I know of someone who would be very interested to hear about them and have done a bit of research. Thanks again .
It's nice to read about a doctor getting so involved, not always the case. As you say, her personal circumstances probably make her more empathic.

I'm sorry to say that I did smile (briefly !) when I read about the fridge freezer debacle @Obelix-Vendée. Been there, done that. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

              Evening folks.

Did some good deeds today - including fixing Dad’s patio door! Who needs a locksmith! Just making meatballs inspired by the new Jamie Oliver series ‘Eat Yourself Healthy’. Extra protein as you mix the beef with beans, then cook on a bed of roast veg with tomato sauce. I’m looking forward to it.

I posted a good link about Living Wills a while ago @AnniD :

Good evening all. I got quite excited today as the forecasted rain arrived - it threw it down! The negative thing is that it only lasted about 10 minutes but then about 2 hours later there was another downpour - again short lived, so didn't really make much impression. I have been watering tonight and areas were still incredibly dry. I had a glut of apples donated by friends that I have been prepping and freezing and between times I have been knitting leaves for my posy arrangements. I have to 'fess up to having a little smile too @Obelix-Vendée when I read of the fridge/freezer mix up. I do hope that you can get it sorted out.
Hoping for a better sleep tonight and as there is nothing on TV tonight that is of interest to me and I can never be bothered with iPlayer etc. I am going to retire early and read so I'll say good night and see you all tomorrow.

I might smile about it one day @AnniD and @Ladybird4. The freezer can't go back as it's what OH ordered. The dead fridge-freezer was mostly used for drinks like wine, beers and softs, my seeds and Possum's nail varnish. I do not have room in the larder fridge for all of those which means OH, who is drinks monitor, is going t have to be very organised about shuffling bottles about.

I can feel a fridge freezer coming on for Xmas.

Tonight's committee meeting was in La Roche and we had 2 short downpours of rain but I've come home to find that not a drop has fallen here. No surprise. One of our new colleagues is a very chatty fellow and lovely but it's not appropriate to hold secondary conversations while we're discussing business and he also has an ear infection which means he doesn't hear everything and it has to be repeated. Exhausting.

The best bit is the pot luck dinner at the end everyone brings home made seasonal food to share and some, like me, try new recipes. I made an upside down apricot, almond and cardamom cake with apricots from the garden.

Well done with the door @AuntyRach

Hello everyone. Off to Bestie's today and after I pick her up we are going to our friend's to look at his garden. He lost his wife recently and she was the gardener - he is to quote his own word 'clueless' and has picked our brains regularly all this year. He invited us to go and look at how the garden is looking now. I am hoping that we have a dry interlude to go and view his garden as it is very wet here at the moment. I hope that you all have productive days and that @Goldenlily26 has got over the shock of the peremptory summons to her Doc's.

                        Good morning to you all!!

Yes!!!! Rain - and enough of it so far to soak the ground - a bit - at least it hasn't rolled off. Thunder and lightning last night around 9pm. I had to go out and close the little plastic potting shed door which I leave open as it gets so hot in there. Fizz came with me into the dark of the night. Just as we got back inside - down came the rain. Great for the garden - it will split the tomatoes - but I will make sauce.

I have some lovely beetroot ready to eat, so will do a Jamie Oliver hot beetroot with horseradish cream sauce!!

SM for me in a minute so I will dash off and Fizz will just have to wait - the temperature has dropped so not too hot for her later on.

                        Commiserations @Obelix-Vendée !!

To all - an enjoyable Thursday.

Good morning. Bright and sunny here with clouds over towards La Rochelle and up round Nantes but not here. However, we seem to have had a very wee dribble in the night as the table on the terrace is damp but the terrace is bone dry so not a lot.

Brollies and wellies today then @Ladybird4. Love beetroot and horesradish @Tui34. In winter I like to make a gratin with butter beans and beetroot in a creamy horseradish sauce with breadcrumbs and cheese on top. Haven't done it I a while tho cos I can't get proper butter beans here and Possum thinks she doesn't like beetroot unless it's in a chocolate cake.

SM for me too. Weekly shop with no-one distratcing me or bunging extras in the trolley. he's off playing golf and she's back at work. After that a date with freezers - sorting contents and loading the new one.

Have a lovely day everyone, whatever your weather.

I am still waiting for it to rain! We have had a few short sharp bursts of heavy rain but nothing to do any good to the garden.
I watered the greenhouse, picked the ripe tomatoes, then hosed and scrubbed out the very large plastic manhole cover thingy I use as Poppy's litter tray. It took ages, was hard work but needed doing. I have tried some cat litter made from corn, supposed to be 100% natural. I like the clump forming litter as it is much easier to deal with. I split open an empty compost sack to use as a liner, my idea is I will be able to roll up the sack and dispose instead of having to scrub out the container. Time will tell.

I suggested to my daughter we go to the local RSPCA venue for me to take some of Robbie's towels. That triggered me into exploring the depths of one of my "household linen" drawers, I found enough bath sheets, hand towels etc to fill a black sack. I now have one empty drawer.

The chickens have been back and made even more mess, I rooted around and found a piece of chicken wire which I flattened enough to lay over their dust bowls, where I had planted some lily bulbs, bulbs now laying on the surface. I have put a lump of rock on top of the wire to hopefully deter the wretched birds.

Good luck with your repairs Lizzie. I always feel very unsettled when I have workmen around doing jobs. Not comfortable.
A good sign if Gyn is beginning to 'come out of his shell'.It will take time.
Bergerac looks lovely, never been but very pretty.

Just as I got to the hair chair yesterday, we had a short shower. By the time the customer in front of me was leaving, it had stopped. Nothing since.
I might be brave and dig up a piece of horseradish root to see if I have anything usable. I'm growing it in a large pot. I used to make a beetroot and horseradish chutney, which proved very popular.
Do I hang the washing out - or on the rack upstairs? Decisions, decisions... rain is forecast later this morning.
