    Good morning everyone,

Kandy, I'm pleased you had a good holiday :dbgrtmb:.

Mrs Shiney has now sown 300 runner beans (some of them for sale) and the first lot are 6" high. I've put up two rows of canes, so far, and changed the way I do them. The last few years the wind has gradually got stronger and stronger during the summer so I've now tied the tops of the canes to wires strung between very strong poles.

I've got five sets of poles and also strung the strings across all the wires and canes and formed a sort of webbing across the top. Hopefully, this will allow the beans to grow across and form a sort of roof with the beans hanging down. This should make it a lot easier to pick the beans as they usually reach the top of the pole and continue growing (even when I nip the tops off) and then interweave and droop down - which makes me have to duck under them whilst I'm picking. It's too hard on my back to continue doing that.

The Aquilegias are trying to flower and I hope they manage it by Open Day as they provide a riot of colour for everyone to see. Other things are way behind. Normally by Open Day the lilac and laburnum have finished but they have only just opened so should still look good. With a bit of luck the Choisya and the allium siculum will be open as well. The allium siculum (I still call them by that name :heehee:) have spread like mad this year so I'll dig a lot up after Open Day - unless anyone wants some when they visit and I'll dig them out straight away.

I hope woo is OK as he was supposed to be going into hospital this month. Best wishes to you, woo :dbgrtmb:

Just been out and bought some 5" pots and some more bamboo canes. I have potted on the 22 Tobacco plants into the 5" pots and now we shall see them grow! They are quite big as it is. Nice in between the showers!

    Good noon everyone,

Bad weather yesterday but sunny today :dbgrtmb: so I've been out doing some gardening. I finished picking up the cuttings from the neighbour's Leylandii (couldn't do anymore bending the other day) and have cut a new edge in the 30ft of bed, that we made the other month, alongside that hedge. It wasn't easy as it's a bit soggy.
I've also done another 60ft of edging - this area I'm not as fussy about the edge as in the main part of the garden (but still a bit fussy :heehee:). Only another 250ft to go :phew:.

Time for lunch , then off to town for a big meeting (got to get things prepared for the AGM next month and need to find us a new chairman - arm twisting time - as I'm the president). Then this evening it's the AGM and prizegiving at the Wednesday bridge club - I'm chairman of this lot :heehee:. I'll have to finish preparing papers for the evening meeting when I get back from the afternoon one - no pressure :lunapic 130165696578242 5:.

I've also been organising the list of helpers for Open Day and still need to find another 'volunteer' :WINK1: to help carry the the marquee that I'm borrowing from the village festival committee.

    Have a great day

    Good Morning everyone....
I had a busy day off yesterday moving just under a ton of soil around the garden...it was dug out from under the old path we are replacing....
Today i'm back at work:frown: then when i get home Archi and Theo have an appointment at the vets for their booster jabs...
I hope everyone is in fine fettle and steadily catching up with your plantings....the weather has been a little kinder of late....saying that i can't believe me and Mr L were sat drinking Ovaltine before we went to bed last night....thats normally a winter 'thing' in this house...and then we had to break out into song..."we are the Ovaltine's":rolleyespink:...i we're going crackers :heehee:
    Have a good day everyone,take care:SUNsmile:

Good morning nutty loli :heehee: and everyone,

The sun is trying to come out this morning and I think we'll have another lovely day. As it looks like rain from then onwards I think I'll have a go at the laurel. It's about 80ft long, 7ft high and about 5ft wide. As it's not on a neighbour's boundary I have to cut both sides! I'll have a go at the top first as that seems the worst part - but I've still got the 250ft of lawn edging to shape

To make sure I'm ready for Open Day I need to get the mower out frequently and cut the lawns even if they don't really need it - just in case a can't get it done close to the date. Ah well! It keeps the old bones active - and aching :heehee:

I hope everyone's furry and feathery friends are well and enjoying themselves now that we've had a dry day or two :dbgrtmb:

Keep well and have a great day

Morning all, nice and bright out there this morning. Shiney you certainly have a lot of work on your hands. Don't know how you keep it up. Do mind your back.

I suppose Lolli it wont be long before Amber is due for her booster jabs. beginning of July I think will be the year round.

4 times I walked her yesterday, my legs certainly knew it last night! I wish I knew whether I was doing my joints good or bad. Especially as most of the problem is that they are worn out! Oh well what do they say use it or lose it and that's what I am bearing in mind but Amber doesn't care as long as she gets walks when she wants to go to the toilet! She no longer goes in the garden.

Hope Kandy, Woo, Penny and Jenny are ok. Have a wonderful day all.:)

        Good morning everyone,

Finally have got caught up with everything apart from work on the lottie which we are hoping to get done over the coming weekend...

Shiney it is times like this that i am so glad that i don't have a great expanse of lawn:loll:

Moyra, sorry to hear your legs are tired after the four walks with Amber but at least the exercise and fresh air will do you both some good. They say that walking is one of the best forms of exercise and as it is free it must do us all some good:smile:

Loli, sounds like you have been busy as well in the garden with soil removals and i hope the annual boosters go ok for Theo and Archie went off ok:smile:

Penny sounds like you are busy as well at the moment and we are still getting frosts here as well so are not putting stuff out yet but as the garden seems to be shrinking don't know where we are going to plant it all:snork:

I popped up to see my friend yesterday to see how she is recovering after doing her Moonwalk Marathon and apart from aches, pains and blisters she is doing quiet well and the medal she got is awsome:dancy:

Anwya, the sun is shining so had better go and make a start now i have finished my brekkie and hope you all have a great day:smile:

          Good morning everyone,

I got lots done yesterday :dbgrtmb: and worked in the garden from 10a.m. to 7p.m. with just a few breaks.

I started on the laurel but then spotted an occupied nest, so stopped. It had taken me over 15 minutes to get all the gear out and ready and then the same amount of time to put it away . I then got out my fruit picker which is a 10ft long pole with a cutter on the end - and a basket for the fruit to drop in. I used that to cut off the extra long stems of laurel that were sticking up above the hedge. I could do that without disturbing the birds (mum was flying backwards and forwards feeding the babies) but it took over an hour just to get those long bits off. The hedge still looks like it needs a cut but it's not as bad as it was.

I started cleaning up the carport, where we had about 500 plants (we have moved some of them towards the plant sales area), as that is where we set up the entrance desk and the raffle.

Then I went on to do a lot more edging, some pruning and weeding. About noon two people turned up with a dozen hostas for our plant sale and bout some plants as well. So we spent an hour chatting over a cuppa.

Than back to edging and, finally, had a very big bonfire :dbgrtmb:

I'm going back out there soon as they forecast rain for this afternoon.

          Have a great day

Hello Everyone, late this morning but then I haven't much to say except "Don't over do things Shiney and Lolli because it sounds as though you are both going mad on garden work. I might go out and feed the grass areas if it is going to rain later because that will need watering in. Have a good day all.
