Sorry, Moyra, the shields are out of commission for their summer service .

Things got a bit hectic for a while yesterday afternoon. I was trying to get some things
done before getting ready to open the bridge club in the evening. Then my computer called me telling me that I was being Skyped. So I log in and it's someone from Brazil (family) and whilst in the middle of that the phone rang. As I was expecting an important call I answered it and it was some friends in Hong Kong saying that they are about to board a plane for Heathrow! So quick arrangements made and they're coming for dinner tonight (we cancelled something we had on tonight).

Whilst all that was going on, the people from Grove Cottage came to collect the money we had taken during Open Day. It was quite heavy as there was a few thousand pounds in change!!!!

I'm off out into the garden for a while as I have to put up some frames for sweetpeas that Mrs Shiney is doing trials of - they're not named yet so can't give you any more info about them. We (Mrs Shiney ) have to keep records of germination, growth, flowering, scent and how long the flowers last.

Then I'm off shopping to get food for tonight. I think I'll make a nice veggie soup, roast chicken and all the trimmings, chocolate pots and apple crumble.

Friends turned up half an hour ago. Just having a look on here between doing the cooking. Spuds and chicken are in the oven. Soup made and veggies ready for a stir fry - decided on fusion cooking today . Doing julienne of courgettes and carrots with spring onions, ginger and a touch of soy. Should go well with crispy roasties and roast chicken thighs dusted with a touch of garlic salt and mixed herbs. Soup is a cream of mixed veggies and lentils.

Off to do some basting.

Loli, I don't think I could cope!

It's not a particularly nice day out there but I've got loads of things to catch up on. I've been neglecting some of the other work I do for a number of organisations and I really need to get going on them.

Keep well and have a great day - even if it's just curling up with a good book and a cuppa.

Welcome back everyone

Moyra, Barry has settled in quite well but I'm having to deal with the County Council higways dept. The dropped curb that he uses for his mobility scooter is a problem. The road just in front of it is badly eroded and and he can't use it. The only other one he can use is by the school crossing up the road and then the pavement is so narrow around there that the kids and mums with pushchairs have to step into the road to get round him. I'm getting them to fix it as an emergency job but they have so many emergencies that it will take some time. I'm looking into getting a few friends to do a temporary fix on it with quick setting cement - can't do it myself because of my back.
