It's a peculiarity of the sunrise/sunset scale that although we have passed solstice we shall continue to have a later sunrise each day until 31st of December. But the days will be longer because sunset is later. :blue thumb:

In January the length of the day will increase from just one minute per day to three minutes per day and will roar away to almost four minutes per day until the March equinox. From then on the days will continue to lengthen, at a gradually slower rate, until the June solstice.

Those are the figures for Shineyland . The further north you are the larger the increase in daylight per day. So, in Yorkshire, the increase in March is almost four and a half minutes per day.

    103. Whose obsessive about day length? :heehee:

There's a difference between 'daylight length' of a day and 'day length' as a 24 hour average clock day length (Mon to Tue, Tue to Wed, etc.) does not match an actual 'noon to noon' day length where the days are actually longer around this time of year despite having the shortest amount of daylight. The shortest days (noon to noon) for this year, 2014 have long gone,

I get error 404 using that link.

But I know from many years of experience it will be pretty close to 24 hours.

            Sorry! Try this :blue thumb:

            http://www.timeanddate.com/

Then go to the 'Sun and Moon' tab and click on 'Sun Calculator'. Type in your location in the Search box.

You can have fun looking at all the other functions on the site.

That's quite interesting Shiney. My local forecast says sunset today was 3.59pm, on the web site it says 3.57pm.

Although it doesn't really matter exactly when sunset is I'd be more inclined to believe the website. If they were inaccurate they are likely to be inundated with complaints - and they provide too much information throughout the site to want to continue to be wrong.

That's just a feeling, not a statement of fact :)

Good morning all just as long as I see the sunrise the sunset can look after its self;):heehee:

To day the sunset for yours truly is said to be 5.53 pm

When you wake up every 2 hours in the night because your always thinking about your next gardening project, and when you walk past a garden with neglected Roses in it you knock on their door and asked if you could prune and tidy them for free of course, and I never go out without my secateurs in my pocket ;)

                              106. You drive around with the back of your car full of chitting potatoes because you've run out of room indoors (no names mentioned on this one :))

                                107. Your other half goes away for work for a few days, and while you claim that you will miss them in their absence, you are secretly delighted because it means you can arrange delivery of more plants, purchased online.

                                108. You spend several days dreaming up elaborate excuses for the sudden appearance of a large delivery of new plants, ranging from 'they grew overnight,' to 'a farmer friend was giving them away, free.'

                                109. You never, EVER admit to your total plant expenditure. They were all on clearance. Honest.
